Maybe some of you should go get your own team and then show everybody the right way to build a stadium. We all would do the same don’t kid yourself or pretend you wouldn’t.
Let's look at the example provided where? - oh, right here, with the building of what is now Capital One Arena. The ol' skinflint, Abe Pollin, financed the original arena (apparently stepping back from public funding after capitalism worked how it's supposed to in the textbooks, i.e., a competitor stepped in with a better deal for the local jurisdiction).

A group of Washington business leaders brokered a deal between Pollin and the District government to build an arena at the Gallery Place site, with the District paying for the $150 million project, which was envisioned to have shopping, food, and exhibitors for daily use even when there was no arena event.[19][20][21] The D.C. Council approved a special tax on businesses to finance the deal.[21] However, a competing proposal soon emerged, when Robert Johnson, head of Black Entertainment Television, offered to build the arena with mostly private financing.[22] With the arena deal facing criticism amid the District's budget crisis, Pollin eventually agreed to privately fund the construction of the building, which ultimately came to $200 million[23][24] (US$365 million in 2023 dollars[3]). The District would pay for other costs, including purchasing the portion of the land it did not already own, preparing the site, and expanding the Metro station; these eventually amounted to $79 million[24][25] (US$138 million in 2023 dollars[3]). The District leased the land to Pollin at a below-market rate of $300,000 per year.[26][27]
wiki

It's hard to argue that Pollin should've been responsible for some of the work that DC paid for, such as expanding the Metro station. He still got assistance from the district but the amount of aid pales in comparison with the deal that Leonsis and his cronies made. Maybe the difference is just the natural evolution of Corporate Socialism.

You are comparing then to now. I could give all kinds of examples. But today, sports is a much bigger business, both for the owner, and the city. The seal was broken long ago, and so yeah, owner are going to drive a truck through that hole.

Don’t hate the player; hate the game.

Pollin also sold part of their financial future by taking the last $50 mil from DC Gov. In return they get something like $10 per seat for every event and a free suite to use. I heard Ted say it was horrible but Abe was willing to do pretty much anything to get that building done as it was his legacy he wanted to leave the city.

such a waste to keep building new stadiums. Update them sure but there is nothing wrong with Cap One. Put a winning product on the ice and nobody gives a f*** about a shiny new stadium.

Hey caps fans, how has PLD been for you guys?
McMichael and Wilson look terrific this year. I’m sure some of that is due to Wilson getting healthy again and McMichael continuing his development but I think PLD’s play has been a big contributing factor as well. He’s been very solid at both ends of the ice and makes plays to open up space and time for his linemates.

Would like to see a bit more production for his AAV but a huge upgrade at the 2C position.

They quoted Carbs earlier saying PLD has arguably been our best forward….i was a little surprised, but he’s been solid.
In this game or on the season. I’m not sure I’d agree with that on either. But i have liked him. He is a legit top 6 center but he will always be compared to 8.5M which is fair but I just want 6M of value from him.

12.5M for him and Strome combined. All day long!

Isn’t it 13.5m for the 2 of them? Not trying to be a noob, but I think it’s 8.5 and 5

Agreed, his pace, puck carrying, and compete level, have been eye-opening(partially due to low expectations). Compared to a broken Kuzy and injured Backstrom from last year, the upgrade is huge. The way Carbs is using his line(and Dowd's line) to match up against the other teams top lines, is great. They've outplayed Eichel and Hintz's lines, which is impressive. Hopefully he will keep it up.🤞

There are plenty of people who would have no problem insisting their company be a good corporate citizen thats pays its own business expenses instead of passing those costs on to the public. The problem is that people with those values will never ascend to positions of true power in the corporate world.

Lock up Chychrun 8 x 8 plus all the Ox liver he can eat ASAP.

Do not add any F until we have Leonard, Miroshnichenko, and Lappy all settled in and we have a clear understanding of who they will be and who gels with who. Only then make moves to fill the gaps or make very significant improvements.

Continued patience.

I do like the CMM - PLD chemistry. I might test a flip with CMM at 2C and PLD over on LW. Might give him a boost. Not a demotion but an experiment. I think he will be very nice for us long term. Can always switch back as needed.

I'd keep rolling these lines at least until the Caps lose. The 3rd line might not be producing, but they aren't giving up goals either. Literally -- I don't think they've been on for a GA since game 1. They aren't even really giving up many chances against, according to their xGA numbers. If it ain't broke....

Well Carbs is also giving Lapi/Vrana (+Milano) <10min ATOI so he's fully aware they've been the weakest link so far; outside of V's nice assist last night, he's barely been visible since his 1st shift of the season when he scored

I'm fine with having 3 of 4 structured lines esp with Dowd's line taking care of business 24/7

Goals from D (and now SHG's ;) ) are where I've been hoping one of the big jumps in GF will come from, and it has...
JC + JC both at 2 is already 20% of last years' goal total from D

Great start, warts and all (and the warts aren't even so wart-y)

The third line has been playing a lot better since the first game. It's not a finished product, but the production will come as they continue to gel. It really helps when Vrana is going as his speed provides an element to that line that opens up space for Lapierre and Mangiapane.

Low event, but Moneypuck had Lapierre as having 80.69% of the xGF in his favor last night. His game is coming around. Lappy has also pulled his season xGF% total positive after that dreadful first game at 16.44%.

The problem I see with the 3rd line is that there isn't anyone who hustles. The one time we see Vrana do it they end up scoring. The 2nd line is working great because both Wilson and CMM are relentless. I would like to see Lappy's compete level increase. He is kind of just meandering right now.

Yep, was just looking at that. Could do worse than a "3rd" (really 4th) line that gets mildly sheltered deployments and doesn't give up a lot of chances the other way. Here's how the 4 lines are doing so far at ES.

Mangiapane hustles. Small but a grinder IMO.

Btw apropos of nothing, how ‘bout Big Mac putting up his dukes for a marathon with that thug Deslauriers? Will be at tonight’s tilt, hoping for a rematch.

Random observation not really meaningful to the points being made .. but I noticed from the game summary last night that Dubois was 8-2 on faceoffs (45% season to date), and McMichael was 3-0 (50% season to date). Hopefully the successes last night are a sign of improvements being made.
