having 2 4Cs as your bottom six centers seems kinda redundant
Dowd's got to be a low end 3C by now. You can only be a 4C on the arguable best 4th line in hockey for so long before maybe you're just a 3C being edged out.

Last player leaving Calgary, please turn out the lights.

(I covet Lindholm, but I don't think the Caps have the pieces to get him.)
Lindholm's got one year left on his contract and it's rumored he doesn't want to re-sign in Calgary, so the Caps definitely have the pieces to get him. I think it'd hurt though, like giving up the 8OA.

Leonsis selling 5% of monument to Qatar

f*** that

Not cool Ted
That news was fairly strange.

An NBA spokesman confirmed it is reviewing the investment, which has not been finalized. Spokesmen for the Qatari fund and the NHL did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The NBA adjusted its rules last year to allow for such foreign investment. No fund is able to own more than 20 percent of a team, according to the amended rule. The NHL is not known to have any rule precluding such a foreign investment.

“In November 2022, the NBA Board of Governors decided to permit passive, non-controlling, minority investments in NBA teams by institutional investors, including university endowments, foreign and domestic pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds, subject to a set of policy guidelines adopted at that time,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement. “All such investments require league review, NBA Board approval and compliance with the policy.

4 billion for 5% seems really pricey but I guess that’s also 5% of not just caps/wiz but capital one etc

Ted is rich but he ain’t that rich to turn down 4 Bs …

My lbqt daughter will be disappointed

Not sure what to do now honestly
The entire value of Monumental was $4B, not the 5%. This was $200M (assuming no fancy math).

Love my Caps. Watch 'em on de streamz. But won't be paying for ESPN's shitty coverage anymore and live too far from DC to attend games. So no more of my $$$ going that way, thankfully.

Also Ted is totally rich enough to turn it down and have his family be stupid rich for generations. But people who love money can never have enough.

Sutter is a zero-offense guy, even in the AHL. Maybe he can be a PK role player at the NHL level, but I really don't see him having much upside when compared to NAK or Dowd. I don't hate him as a call-up when another defensive player goes down, but I think they can do better for everyday players.

I wondered if Ted was raising capital for either MASN (now that something is settled there) or the Nats.

(No judgement from me on anyway who no longer wants to spend money.)

I think he still wants the Nats. Having all the DC sports, minus the Commanders, under one umbrella is worth more then any price that he'd pay for the Nationals.

Oh this having the Nationals would give them something about all year around. If you watch the press conference for Winger Ted did talk about how a unique situation he has having both the Caps/Bullets and the local sports TV channel. That said don't know if he has deep enough pockets to pay off the Orioles for the TV contract rights.

Random factoid from this news...

In May 2018, Qatar donated $100,000 to the DowntownDC Business Improvement District, which directed the same amount to Metro, as part of a deal for the transit agency to provide an extra hour of service after Game 4 of the NHL’s Eastern Conference finals between the Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning at Capital One Arena.

Wow…think of the valuation of the whole thing with that price for 5%. And yeah, Caps, Wiz, Cap 1, wonder if the TV station is in there too….need to ask my sources.

I think, at least what I had thought the assumption was, that at some point the Nats would get out from under the Orioles. I can't imagine the Nat's sell with the MASN issue still being up in the air.

And it looks like ole Ted is gonna be playing hardball.
