Kuzmenko for Mantha straight up. Basically a wash $-wise. Tocchet is clearly done with Kuzmenko, and they could get a comparably priced top 6 who's a lot bigger than Kuzmenko and who sometimes plays like a North American, which Kuzmenko never does - so that would make Tocchet happy too
I’d think Kuz for Kuz. Whatever else needs to be added on both sides.

Strome, McMichael, Protas, Dowd, Lapierre are all C’s. I am sure others can play it, and we ca swing another deal.

Keep Mantha. His xGAF is high right now, and he’s a UFA after this year. No point in dealing him.

Don't sprinkle in any Oshie. He expired 3 years ago.
For shame Alphabet Soup. Oshie is part of our fabric. He can still play. Just not every day.

He helps win games

Its fair to assume if the Caps are in trade rumors we are not on his 12 team NTC list.

Its also fair to assume he wants to be here, and we could get him for free in the off season when hes a UFA and all we need to get him is our cap space and we will have lots of it to spend.

I'm not sure how Oshie helps win. He is not an effective player by any measure. Can you please explain why you think he wins games?
When healthy — and I know that’s obv part of the issue — he’s one of our better goal scorers. Other than Ovechkin, he scored more goals per game last year, than anyone else.

And from what we all see, we arent scoring a lot of goals.

I know fans like to just throw away players. Sure, we are a “what have YOU done for me lately” society….. but let’s get a hold of ourselves.

Unless you’ve been a Caps fan for like 2 seasons, Oshie is a guy you allow to play thru whatever he’s dealing with. And if he can’t, than you manage accordingly.

I’m not one to dismiss him after 20 games. Seems that maybe you are.

Roger that.

Get real, Oshie is done! He's so broken down that it takes him a long time to recover. Oshie is now in Backstrom territory.

maybe he is. But what if he isn’t.

Unless you are one of those people that prescribe to the notion that athletes fall off a cliff in a few months. Is that it?

If so, same with Captain 8? Who is what, 3 years older?

I don’t, for either.

Give these dudes their time to get right. The off season (or injury) is where you determine where they fit onto your roster. Not 30 games in.

And please find me a coach that benches a healthy 77. Based on just his last freaking year?

You Won’t.

Oshie is a 5'11 185 lbs guy who plays like he's Tom Wilson, who has concussion issues along with a string of recurring injuries. At his best he was a scrappy 60 point guy with great hands.

Ovi is a 6'3 230 lbs guy who used to play like he's Tom Wilson who hasn't been concussed and hasn't had any major lingering injuries who at his best was the best player in the league scoring 50 every year whilst being physically dominant.

Obviously both have declined but one started from a much higher platform. And one stays in the lineup. I love Oshie too but planning to have him in the lineup is just bad planning at this point.

Oshie hasn't played 60 games in a season since 2019-20. It doesn't matter if they plan to have him in the line-up or not, he's simply going to miss big chunks of the season regardless, and even when he does play, he's visibly not close to 100% anymore.

Ok, wait wait wait.

One, I don’t think “planning” on 77 being in the lineup is what we were discussing? I was simply stating that a healthy (able to play) Oshie needs to be in the lineup. He’s earned it, and we need his scoring.

Two, Oshie is 36. Ovechkin is 38. Oshie is a Caps legend now. Ovechkin is an NHL legend now. They aren’t the same.

But Oshie still needs to get a sweater, when he’s able to play. Same as Ovechkin.

Until they cannot (like we just saw with Backstrom).

Oshie "cannot" like how a dog that licks themselves too much needs a cone. He just can't stop playing the game, and can't stop getting the absolute shit kicked out of him as a result.

Healthy is out the window. We're well past talking about that as a real possibility for him, because even he's done with that. If the NHL has an active candidate for load management, Oshie is that candidate, because short of forcing him to retire there's nothing else they can do to protect him from himself (and somebody needs to, that man has a pretty large amount of kids and a family/personal history with brain trauma)

Let's do the right thing and not pencil him in for an every day spot. Run it like a platoon situation in baseball, maybe use that as the excuse to get Phillips in if that's your thing, but just looking at how it's going now I don't see the point in playing Oshie for around 10 games until he gets too hurt to do it and then playing the replacement until he's back, it's time to just get out in front of it and limit what he does to keep him fresh, healthy, and effective.

Oshie hasn't been a good goal scorer for the last several years. He has 27 even strength goals and 67 even strength points in his last 176 games (that's 3 full seasons plus this one). He's always injured or coming back from injury, but he also isn't capable of playing the physical game that made him so effective because his body doesn't work the way it used to. He struggles to keep up with the play at this point, and he is rarely in position to play his game.

You want an old man to be spoon fed minutes. Roger that.

I agree, they need to manage his minutes and deploy him a bit more conservatively. I think top 6 minutes is just too much for him at this point in his career. He can still be an effective role player, and as a powerplay and shootout specialist. He shows more heart and courage than anyone else on the team. That doesn't show up in the stats, but it's something the team desperately needs.
