There's 2 lines that have performed this year
Pro-McMic-Martha
Mal-Dowd-NAK

while 4th line hasn't been as dominating as whenever that great stretch they had was (gms 10-20 or so? ), don't see a need to fix what ain't broke, plus they're picking up the slack of the rest of the fwds with some extra assignments/shifts

If we had more than 2 Top-6'ers performing (Strome/Willy) we wouldn't have so much need for Dowd to pull 15+ min.s so often (and Mal 14+ ) which likely brings down 4th lines' overall effectiveness

Every team has a Lucas Johansen tbh. Not sure why anyone would want him. If he was a RHD, different story
While that’s true, that’s based on actual results.. not everyone else’s version was a 1rd pick.. so someone could get lured by the pedigree and hope to unlock him.

Also, worth noting that LuJo is on a one-way contract and must clear waivers and still hasn’t played a lot of NHL games. And he is 26. There are tons of those guys on every roster. Not enough evidence to think he will be a top 6 guy which is the only reason to pick him up.

So my guess is he clears. Phillips more likely to be picked up than LuJo. Alexyev I think is also more likely to get picked off.

Pedigree? This many years later? I mean hell I hope he is claimed to give him a chance, but no I can’t imagine a team with a hard on for a 1st round bust who is 26.

I’m all for the defensive changes (Bear in; TVR/Jensen out) which gets us younger and probably more offensive on Dee.

For forwards, not sure who else we bring in. When Patches and Milano are back and keeping what we have mostly in tact:

OV-Strome-Wilson
Pro-McMike-Mantha
Patches-Kuzy-Oshie
Malenstyn-Dowd-NAK
Milano

If we bring in another top 6 (or top 9) then you who are you going to force out? Pro, McMike, and Malenstyn need to play. And others you aren’t going to sit unless they go to IR. Good problems to have but next year I want Miro and Leonard to have a real shot at a spot.

Bold of you to assume Oshie will be a permanent fixture in the lineup.

It’s interesting how everyone (seemingly including the coaches) is so quick to get Milano out of the lineup. On a team so bereft of finishers, he can actually handle himself around the net, so I’d like to keep him in the lineup.

He’s no elite scorer obviously, and has some defensive issues - but, it’s a really, really low bar for offensive impacts on this team. Plus, I think he’s one of the few guys that’s shown chemistry with Kuzy - he actually provides him with some puck support, and can finish plays.

Who replaces him?

I wish we could get prime Bergeron to our 4th line but there are very few players in the game that can tilt the ice on the 4th line with 8% OZ starts and facing tough competition.

This seems premature. Goals count. It's actually funny that their line has gotten that sorts of GF/GA results despite absolutely garbage minutes.

Goals count but goals aren't predictive to the same level as xG share. They're getting an on-ice shooting percentage of 15% and getting a 97% save percentage. These are highly unsustainable numbers.

They aren't as bad as their xG share due to rough deployments but they have by no means been good. Due to the relative weakness of their star players Washington really needs to get a lot out of their fourth line and they aren't really getting it right now. With Pacioretty in I'd go something like:

Ovechkin-Strome-Wilson
Pacioretty-McMichael-Mantha/Protas
Milano-Kuznetsov-Phillips
Mantha/Protas-Dowd-Oshie

Dowd, Kuznetsov, McMichael, Wilson, Protas, and Mantha/Oshie would be the PKing forwards.

“3rd line” winger who gets 8 mins a night on a good night….brilliant. Shake your device and try again…

I like what @DWGie26 posted:

OV-Strome-Wilson
Pro-McMike-Mantha
Patches-Kuzy-Oshie
Malenstyn-Dowd-NAK
Milano

Only I would find a way to get Milano in there. Like to see if Max can do a little secondary Captaining on Kuzy…ignite him…I’d also like to see Max with CMM.

I like Milano. But i still think I’d rather have Beck at 4LW over Milano. But having Milano as 13F gives a lot of flexibility in bottom 6. Someone has to sit.

No! No more hockey jockey. It was a fun meme, but it’s over!

Ovechkin-Strome-Wilson
Pacioretty-Kuznetsov-Miroschnichenko
Mantha-McMichael-Protas
Milano-Dowd-Oshie
NAK/Malenstyn

All 4 lines can be useful. Move Miro to wherever he seems most comfortable, there are a lot of options here.

that second line would be all vibes no defense but I would respect it tbh

I like that look. But i think Miro develops more in Hershey than WSH. And pragmatically, if we sign Bear we will hold 8 Dee an 13F. So NAK/Malenstyn/Milano/Oshie IR), rotate 13F.

Miro may not even play. They probably called him up as an extra forward before the roster freeze just in case

Patches, Jimi and Miro? f*** yeah.

We need goals, why not.

Let me make some lines:

8-17-43
92-24-39
67-29-Miro
21-26-77
