The funding would make up the bulk of an $800 million renovation plan Monumental has outlined to the city, according to the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive negotiations. The remaining $200 million would be covered by Monumental, which is owned by founder and chief executive Ted Leonsis.

One of the people outlined the ask: Monumental would receive the $600 million over four years and use it mostly on construction. The major priorities are to transform the seating bowl — fewer nosebleed seats, more seats close to the court and ice — as well as add a food court that would be open during nongame hours and a new, glassy entrance at Seventh and F streets. Monumental wants to do incremental construction over four consecutive summers, starting in 2024, to avoid disrupting the playing seasons of the Capitals or Wizards, this person said.

I prefer the real numbers that matter, like goals and assists.

This reminds of when Twabby was trying to convince us Kuzy was awesome without production…

Wasn't he also playing a lot with Strome before they switched lines? Again, seems like he was making basic, smart plays while his NHL capable center pushed the offensive play. That's fine enough, but usually when it isn't working you want that guy to be able to hit.

I just wouldn't be so quick to write off somebody who averaged .89 points per game over 5 seasons in the AHL just because you saw a couple plays that confirmed your biases.

I’ve seen 9 games…and who‘s writing him off lol? He’s just very fortunate they have no depth that is ready is all. 5 seasons in the AHL says a lot on its own lol…

I didn't have biases, I had hopes and doubts, same as any other player.

Let me put it to you this way: Carbery doesn't seem adverse to following and trusting some of these stats, but Phillips still isn't playing a lot. Is it my bias or are we both seeing that there's something missing that the stats just don't have a good approximation for that makes him a sub-optimal fit for the system?

Where are these numbers from? Ovechkin with xG of 66.8% doesn't seem humanly possible.
From moneypuck. It's not surprising because he plays the full 2 minutes every power play. A big chunk of his minutes are when we have more players than the other team.

Those Moneypuck numbers look like all-situations numbers rather than 5v5. Their 5v5 numbers are below:

He's not playing a lot, but not abnormally low for essentially a rookie playing in the bottom six.

I don't want to be accused of cherry picking.

OK, nevermind. It's not 5-on-5. Makes it completely useless.

Yeah, Phillips has the team best relative expected goals 5-on-5.

Yeah, that's great. I didn't mean about Philips. You just freaked me out with that list. I looked at it and thought 'Damn, we might have the best top-6 in the league!'

Then I remembered watching the games and came back to my senses. Carry on. Obviously, click the ol' 5-on-5 button next time, pretty please.

At some point, I'd imagine that even a fancies-friendly coach like Carberry needs to see xpts become actual points, especially in the case of a guy who's main selling point is that he's a small, shifty offensive type. If you can't create real offense that shows up in the boxcars, and you're too small and light to generate a time-killing fourth-line type of forecheck, what exactly are you contributing?

If his talent is AHL level, and it appears to be at least that, then good on him. He's a professional hockey player, which makes him better than almost everyone on all of HF. But that doesn't mean he's one of the 800 guys on Earth who are good enough to play in the NHL on the regular. That's not a criticism.

You and I seem to see this one eye to eye almost across the board. If he had one extra thing to give or he was doing what he does just a little bit better we'd be talking about him in a different context, but we're starting to see that not only is he not, but he's being limited as a result and kind of just sapping a roster spot in certain games.

it's not a sleight, it may even get marginally better with exposure, but I don't think it's really feasible past a year like this and wouldn't be surprised if it gets cut short sometime around 40 games without a big change.
