I saw that part when I read the article earlier too, and I pulled up their assist numbers. In their careers, Ovechkin is at 0.49 assists per game, 0.30 primary and 0.19 secondary. Stamkos is at 0.54 assists per game, 0.34 primary and 0.20 secondary. If you prorate those numbers over the difference between Stamkos' 965 games played and Ovechkin's 1321 games played, Stamkos would have 447 primary assists and 268 secondary assists compared to Ovechkin's 399 primaries and 253 secondaries. Over a career, that's essentially 1 extra secondary assist per season between them, and about 3 extra primary assists per season. I'm sure Roenick's eye test is fine tuned enough to pick up on an extra primary assist every 28 games between the two players.

I actually like NAK for this team - though maybe not necessarily top line. But he’s got wheels, a high motor, and battles for pucks. Helps compensate for some of the slower guys, and has shown a pretty decent ability to finish. As long as he stays out of the box, he’s a net positive, and pretty noticeable most games he’s played.

Last game all I could think watching him flying around, being physical - this is so much better than the corpse of Mantha floating around aimlessly. And I kinda like Mantha!
It's nothing against NAK, but it's like when Aaron Volpatti was on the top line with Ovechkin. It just makes no sense to pair them together, and it's not going to due much to maximize the value of either player.

This was when the cap was 46m. So 7.5m for Chara was considered insane at the time. At the time most people considered Redden the guy who made the pairing tick, which is why Ottawa kept him over Chara. Chara also demanded the captaincy.
Admittedly a little hindsight 20/20 but still a bit of a what if.

Good research but I don't even think we even need to go there. Ill take the guy that scores more, gets more assists, hits more, more durable, contributed more to his teams cup win am i missing anything? Maybe Stammer buys his teammates lunch more often, i dont know but ive seen many Tampa games and im just not seeing what JR is talking about.

On a side note in my opinion its silly to make distinctions between primary assists and secondary. Sometimes a secondary assist is the most important part of the play. And its not like NHL used to only track primary assists and recently switched over and now we are adjusting stats etc....

But yea JR is smoking crack

I disagree with this part. Sometimes tertiary and quaternary assists are the most important part of the play yet we don’t give credit for them for good reason.

In general primary assists are better predictors of future production than secondary assists, so it makes sense that we should look at them as more valuable. Maybe on some individual plays the secondary assist is as valuable, but overall they aren’t as indicative of offensive skill.

Is NAK like a poor man’s Chris Clark?

When do we think Mantha gets traded? The longer he sits the less value he has I would think.
It seems like the whole league is in a holding pattern. There are so many rumors out there now about so many different players and several well-paid players around the league are getting scratched now. Maybe a team like Vancouver or Philidelphia will break the ice considering their respective drama.

You would hope the Capitals would make a move sooner rather than later because I think the extra time to find chemistry is super important. Especially after what we just saw with the reintroduction of Backstrom and Wilson. Obviously, it takes another team willing to make a move though.

Best thread I can think of to post it but Japers Rink and his crew were laid off from VOX / SB today.

Japers is always good for content so this sucks. Sure they'll find a new sponsor though.

He just becomes a larger and larger turd as time goes by. He’s always dismissed everything Washington Capitals, as a player and now as a “commentator” (and I use the term very loosely and begrudgingly)
He was local to NoVA when he was young, wonder if he's got some resentment of Caps never showing interest?

He went to (if I remember right) Franklin Intermediate for 7th and 8th grade in Chantilly VA, not sure when he left area

Without going to far into it, as I'm sure it'll get the kabosh on here, JR has always been one of those dudes who exemplified the "Canadian good ole boy" mentality that was/is always saddled along with the "lazy no good Russian' belief.

I think it really just boils down to that.

Man they've produced a ton of content over the years and Capitals related linkage. Bummer but plenty of options these days I would think.

I knew we would lose the Mantha/Vrana trade but I didn't expect Detroit to also lose it.
The return the Wings got is not panning out for them as good as expected. The 1st they got to draft goalie Cossa, hasn't smoothly panned out with his early pro development(but that could get better since he's only age 20). If the Caps can get a return from trading Mantha(d-men I think is their biggest need), then it could still make the original trade better.

So? That has nothing to do with the prevalence that Good Old Canadian Boys are the ones playing Hockey the right way. If you'd prefer, we can expand it to North America. But there's always been an undercurrent that's had a bias towards the way Russians "play the game" and it being lesser then the North American style.
