Remember last year when people were talking about a Kuznetsov-for-Monahan change of scenery trade? Glad that never happened.
Thank God 95% of this forum didn't get their way for Kuznetsov for Whatever that summer. I remember debating with a ton of posters here and thinking "what the hell is wrong with everybody? Have they completely lost their minds?" 1st line centers don't grow on trees, letting one go for scraps would have sent us to doomsday with Backstrom now in the shape he's in.

I thought it could be a possibility. Monahan struck me as someone they’d be interested in. Didn’t think he was so close to falling apart physically though.

On the other hand, if we traded for Monahan we’d have pretty good odds at competing for Bedard!

oh Please….they couldn’t trade him, so he got a last chance and decided to be a professional for once and played the type of hockey we expect of him and he is capable of.

He’s probably lucky he’s still a Capital, and I‘m happy he is, as long as his newfound rededication to his craft sticks.

all he has to do is rinse/repeat the next 3 years and earn his money. Let’s see.

So what happens when Tom Wilson return in December?

Do you guys see him going back to play on the 1st line with Ovechkin?

Or is C.Brown likely replacing Wilson permanently on the first line?

Thanks

I’d like it if Tom plays on L2 with Mantha and Strome. Strome is pretty slow so having someone like Wilson who can skate well is important. Brown isn’t slow but I don’t think he’s as quick as Big Tom.

My guess is Brown will eventually land on the third line behind Wilson and Oshie but we’ll see.

I know It’s easier to believe fantasies about your favorite player rather than the rest of the world lol….it’s like you’re throwing the early jinx on the dude…..watch him have a shit season now….I’m coming back for you if so! ;)

I don’t think Brown plays on the top line. I suspect Mantha, Sheary, and perhaps Oshie and Hathaway will be competing for that time. I’d love to see Mantha earn it and earn some of that 5.7M.

I also really like pairing Brown with Strome (and Sheary - better yet Snively who can finish.

it’s really hard this year to definitely predict lineups, because GMBM has a lot of players signed and that creates competition… which is a good thing.

If I were looking at it from a pure numbers standpoint it’s hard for me to put Ovechkin at #1.

But as the captain of the Ovie fan club I agree with him at #1 wholeheartedly!
Agreed 100%. I’m not going to argue him #1, but I’d wager a few fans of the guys in the rest of the top 10-12 may feel otherwise.

That said, pretty deep group of wingers

Didn't really expect Pronman to grade Miro as an NHL average skater given how much of a stickler he is about that area. (I didn't recall he also had that assessment prior to the draft.) Against his peer group it's fine but against men there's work to do. It's primarily why I liked Yurov over him, though admittedly it's hard to know what his Miro's health status was last season. I mean, there's no way his skating is better than Lapierre's for starters. And no way Lapierre's compete is stronger than his skating...

Good to see the system rising but it still seems like they're missing some elements, mostly up front in more diverse, cerebral and well-rounded skill sets. Hanelt & Magnusson showed some levels of promise at the recent WJC but not overly so. AJF was better in his day and he's struggled to make the jump fully. It's an area that should be more fruitful outside of the first two rounds. Part of it is retaining picks but they also don't have an amazing track record drafting and developing that type of forward. Protas may be their best bet to develop into that sort of complete top three line player but it's going to take a lot of guided development.
