Uhhhh what

Not that I'm super fond of the guy but surely he had trade value?

Handshake agreement signed or something?

I bet they already have an agreement with Kuemper and would rather use the $3Mil on more important assets.

It’s the right move. Cut the cord and move on

How the hell is Georgiev worth two 3rds, a 5th, and a 3x3.4M contract but Samsonov's non-tendered? Nearly identical numbers over the last three years and Sammy's a year younger. I agree, they've got to have a contract worked out for below his QO number or something.

Wow. Zero value.

Is it possible he'll get an offer sheet and that hasn't been announced, and Caps just aren't matching? I would think that would be known by now, or the possibility leaked if too soon. Maybe not.

Ignore me.

Probably go back to Russia.

Guessing they offer him less than the $2.4m QO and let him walk if not?

Bad asset management if he hits the market (unless he had zero value), but I wanted a spicy off season, and this is a bit of spice.

The two sides can continue talking I guess. Zero trade value is kind of surprising for teams like ARI/BUF who have tons of cap room and a need.

Eric Comrie makes sense. They could go vet retread but they should shoot for more.

Edit: Who are we kidding? It's going to be Holtby.

Sammy's getting signed by someone. He's too young with too much potential for a team not to take a shot on him.

Also, BMac out there like:

After seeing the Georgiev contract it does make sense since he would likely get that in arb. He should go somewhere and start. I don't think he's good. But maybe if he actually played consistently he could seemingly improve. Buffalo? Arizona?

Definitely interesting. You would think that GMBM would be able to move his rights somewhere given the current state of the goaltending market. Makes you wonder is Samsonov is threatening to stay in Russia. He could probably make very similar money in Russia and become a star goaltender in the KHL. Would also help any aspirations of representing the national team down the line.

So I guess he turns UFA and then someone offers him something and the Caps can still bid against that, but it's hard to say what the amount or value will really be. Not sure how high the Caps are willing to go on him.

Didn't he refuse to even try to learn english? Maybe he wants to play in Russia and it's a poorly kept secret.

I guess a middle pick wasnt worth the risk of minus 3.5 in cap space before FA. And other teams might have know we didnt want him and wouldnt offer a pick knowing he was going to be a free agent. F off Sammy

Hey guys, with the Samsonov news, is there a chance Fucale lands the backup role?
I could see it but not likely. He did well in limited minutes in DC and the organization seems to like him, plus he's cheap. Not sure they'll feel comfortable with him as the primary backup considering he'd be one play away from being the starter on a team with Cup aspirations but stranger things have happened.
