  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.

I think I'd like to stick and hopefully grab Ravensbergen with our first and try to find a high skill guy with some skating issues in the early 2nd. That said, if someone they rate as a top end prospect starts to fall then pull the trigger and move up. Ryabkin could be a wildcard for them. I could see them being interested if the personality is a fit. People are so down on him right now. The US junior leagues tier-1 and tier-2 have become much more competitive and better at projecting from over the past few years. Ryabkin obviously doesn't have the GP to rank in overall points but after transitioning from Russia he's found himself in the top 10 in points per. I think the USHL is a great place to play for a D-1 from Europe now. It gives you so many options with the future of your development. He's one to keep an eye on for sure leading up to the draft. Lots of people seem torn on him. Could go just about anywhere in the first.
No more 1st round goalie picks for me.

I was looking through recent NHL drafts, and I was shocked at how few goalies are taken in the first round nowadays. This is not an indictment on whether the Caps should taken Ravensbergen in the first round or not but rather a very interesting league-wide trend.

2024 - no goalies taken first round
2023 - no goalies taken first round
2022 - no goalies taken first round
2021 - 2 taken (Cossa & Wallstedt)
2020 - 1 taken (Askarov)
2019 - 1 taken (Knight)
2018 - no goalies taken first round
2017 - 1 taken (Oettinger)
2016 - no goalies taken first round
2015 - 1 taken (Samsonov)

Definitely want to spend draft capital on the position, but it does not have to be a first unless they really love Ravensbergen. Also, those names are a mixed bag to me outside of Oettinger (though I do believe Askarov will eventually hit).

I’m not a draftnik. many other know more than me. But for my money I’m getting the player (or players) I think will be impactful. Probably a combination of being good and lucky last 4 years. But they have their type. So if you need to move up for a guy you love, do it. Get two guys you like. do it.

Tripping or embellishment? Or is it both?

No way that's embellishment, he clearly loses an edge.

The stick is there... i'm not sure if that causes him to lose an edge but that's a call that gets made 99.9% of the time in the NHL. You just don't get the benefit of the doubt when your stick is in there and that happens.

Tough way to lose for sure. Really excited to see Chesley soon. I think he'll sign during the weekend and could be here as early as next week.

Take the Finn in the 3rd!

I'd really like that move. He's propably going to slide because he isn't big but his stats are really good for a goalie already playing vs. men.

I see he had a really good Playoff run too. .919 SV% against the reigning champions, they lost a 5-game series 2-3. As an older guy that already has done really well playing against adults they could put him to Hershey as early as 2026-2027 season.

Minnesota is out

Will Chesley sign?
Opinions more educated than my own from earlier this season believed yes, he will. Supporting argument was that Minnesota is likely to be worse next season with graduations and other NHL prospects signing, so the chances of contending for the championship if he goes back may not be there.

Folks here had suggested that Hershey could really use him through the rest of the season.

Four assists for Protas in a 7-2 G1 win.

Greyhounds went after Protas every chance they got. Must've taken a dozen hits in the game. His knee bent trying to dodge a hit but i think he only missed a shift or two.

What a response from him though. 0+4, 3 primaries. Could have had even more, he created few really great chances for Greentree but Lalonde with the big saves.

Best player in the league.

I thought that was Nesbitt? Might have missed it, tho. I know he drew at least one penalty and overall seemed unfazed.

He definitely controls the play in the offensive zone like very few other juniors. He's always a step ahead mentally and it's chiefly what makes up for any pace limitations. Great vision.
