In the last 26 games (Lapierre recalled) he had 15 points. He followed that up with great Playoffs and even better AHL Playoffs.
McMichael wasn't bad either, in the same stretch he had 11 points and decent Playoffs too.
I hope they both take step forward but no, it's not exactly a crime to put Lapierre ahead of CMM already. He was really good when they needed him to be.
