The Capitals have a TON of defensemen now. I mean, they already did, but even more now. The issue is how many of them are actually capable of playing big minutes and key situations this season?
Defensemen who are clearly Top 4 D on basically any team in the league:
Carlson
Orlov
Aging legend:
Chara
Defensemen who are maybe Top 4 D in the right situation, but have also had significant stretches of their career they look better on bottom pairing roles:
Dillon
Jensen
Schultz
Young defensemen with promise:
Fehervary
Siegenthaler
High value guys that could steal spots:
TvR
LaDue
It's gonna come down to finding the right chemistry and pairings, but they certainly have a lot of options to work with. The Capitals "fourth and fifth" pairings are probably the best in the league, but that doesn't exactly pay dividends. Gonna be interesting to see if there's enough there to fill out the top two pairings with players that won't be outmatched against opposing top lines.
Why would the Caps keep more than 2 goalies on the roster? Anderson/Vanecek will be on the taxi squad. What does this mean for Anderson now? I know he's only on a PTO but if he impresses I'm not sure they even have the cap space to sign him now

I think they can. As long as Anderson isn’t getting big bucks.Wasn't sure how the taxi squad worked with the salary cap so I wasn't sure if they could keep both
Anderson would sign for $750 most likely, if he makes the team great, if not anything under $1.075 mil can be buried so no cap issues would arise.Wasn't sure how the taxi squad worked with the salary cap so I wasn't sure if they could keep both
Wish they had gotten Hoffman instead of Schultz, but I like the D depth.
The Schultz money... like he said...With what money? Hoffman is going to be making a shade under 4 million while we were pinching pennies..
I think we missed Beagle and Orpik a whole lot.BMac wasn't kidding when he said he thought the culture was slipping. In addition to being first-ballot HOFers, Chara and Lundqvist are widely known and respected for their competitiveness, preparation, and professionalism. I know Lundqvist can't play but it's clear that Mac wanted more character guys in the dressing room.

Wasn’t it 5 games before anyway? Or was it 4 (regular season)its crazy we could be playing a div team 15 times next season
Something to look forward to:
The softer teams in our division (not NYI or the Flyers) will get bullied 8 times this season plus the playoffs. No one will want to play a team with Wilson, Chara, Ovechkin and Dillon that many times.
he'll join once the WJC endsI wonder how much missing training camp is going to hurt CMM
