Carlson - great offensively and when healthy can still be good defensively but not mobile
Dillon - great defensively but not mobile
Schultz - mobile but not known for his defensive aptitude
Orlov - good defensively and can be good offensively but not really known for his mobility
Siegenthaler - good defensively but not mobile
Chara - great defensively but definitely not mobile
Trevor van Reimsdyk - kind of a jack of all trades but master of none. I like what he brings and think he can show more than what he did in Carolina but the Caps blueline is just as crowded now as it was with the Canes

Thats 7 guys right there and Jensen makes 8. Thats a lot of guys that need playing time.

I could argue with some of that but what I will say is that several of those dont need playing time. I think they will play a regular 6. Dillon Carlson Orlov Schultz Chara Jensen. Siegenthaler will get to play one end of some back to backs to keep Chara fresh. I think if Jensen is good and the 6 defense are healthy, TVR is going to sit. I think Schultz is going to miss some games, though

Hey, I could be totally wrong. Its not like thats never happened before

I dont know. I just really can't wait for the season to start in a week and a half and see what unfolds. It feels like its been forever since August.

I cant wait either but I will be on the road in FL for work and there is no chance i go into a sports bar to watch hockey

But think about all that quarantine hockey you get to enjoy afterwards!

Eager to see the initial line combos and d pairs, won’t be much time to experiment so I’m guessing they won’t change much to opening night

I know there aren't any preseason games. Hopefully we have some of these scrimmages televised like during the bubble mini camp.

Great to see the lineup "officially" in print, and the D-pairs already look decent and that's without Z; really nice to see Lavi on skates too

Only roster complaint (going on 3rd season now) is getting big wingers who can pot 15-20g on 3rd line, poor Eller has no one to finish/fight for the puck; having to make a spot for Hagelin who can't contribute 1 lick of Offense on the 3rd and physically weakens the 4th has hamstrung this team for several seasons now

Hope Sheary/Sprong/Panik/Hathaway/Hagelin/some combo of bottom-6 wingers can make a good identity for this season's 3+4 lines

Interesting to see:

Sheary-Eller-Panik
Hagelin-Dowd-Hathaway

to start off with. I'm sure all of these guys will bounce up and down to get a feel for chemistry, but I kinda like it. 3rd line has a little bit more scoring oomph with Sheary. Maybe this gets Panik going too. That 4th line should be a pain the ass for any team to deal with.

that 3rd line looks weak. hopefully we have some cap space to add someone who can score at the deadline
They literally have zero cap space. They're eating into $3.6M of the $4M in cap space provided by Kempny and Lundqvist's LTIR. You cannot bank LTIR exemption space. Only way to add is by subtracting or if someone else goes on LTIR.

Orlov-Carlson should be a really good and dynamic first pair. Orlov drives play better than any player on the back end and Carlson is the most talened offensive defenseman on the team. Should lead to some really good 5-man scoring units at ES.

Schultz is the big question mark on defense but other than that it's solid. If Schultz falters Jensen can slide up to the second pair and provide competent play though his offensive impact is limited. Dillon is probably their best defensive defenseman on the team so I like seeing him and Schultz as a pair.

Chara (I assume) and Jensen is a pair that can eat difficult minutes if need be. To not have to shelter a third pair is going to be key going against deeper teams in the playoffs. I imagine TVR should be similarly able to handle difficult deployments.

The forwards look good but ultimately it really depends on the level of engagement from Kuznetsov and Backstrom. I think the third line is fine. Panik settled it pretty nicely after a few months last year, hopefully even with a new coach his familiarity with his teammates will make it so that he won't miss a beat. I also like seeing Hagelin on the 4th line.

Yes, dynamic. Orlov is dynamic and Carlson effective without notice. Do you want this pair as your matchup with the opposing 1st line? Do you want them with offensive players?

My problem here is that this pair is the only pair that can be a shutdown pair. They are also the best offensive pair. One of those assignments is going to suffer because of the other one
