Speculation: Caps General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines etc) - 2020 Offseason Pt. 4

2 points and 2 goals for Ovie. Thats all im asking. And tbh ill be fine with 1/2 from the wishlist too.

If it becomes clear they need to upgrade, it might already be too late. I also find it very hard to believe that there would be anything better than a 3rd tier vet available and then I am not sure thats an upgrade

It will depend on how many teams are out of it early, which might be a bit more muddled with the shortened season. But the trade deadline this year got moved to April 12, so exactly 3 months into the season with about exactly a month before the playoffs (May 8 regular season end date).

How are we f***ed? If getting a goalie was priority we would have done more than spend 1.5M on a backup.

Samsonov was the guy whether or not Schultz signed here.

If Samsonov isnt up to it, trade deadline is far too late. I am hoping for rolling a 7

Last season we had two top pairs. Offensive Kempny-Carlson and Shutdown Orlov-Jensen. This season Orlov moves on the offensive pair and is replaced by Chara on the shutdown one.

You can give a guy like Bowey a $200.000.000 contract, this will not make him a Chelios caliber player. Dillon and Schultz are paid ridiculous money, it doesn't make them anything above 6-7D material. You can skate them big minutes. It will only penalize the team.

Technically, if Sammy isn't up to it, then VV will be given a chance. If NEITHER of them are up to it, then our only hope is a trade.

Yeah, I know, I'm not predicting VV will lead us to a Cup, but he will be given a shot to earn the starting slot, per Lavi. They'll split time and Lavi will roll with the hot hand. So its rolling a 7 with two shots, not one.
 
So Sammy who was the highest drafted goalie of his age class and Vanecek who was the 4th drafted goalie of his age class are both Lottery tickets? OK no?

Lottery ticket? Binnington was a lottery ticket. A 5th string goalie winning a cup. The Caps have a goaltending tandem with 22 NHL games between them. Thats not ideal

Im not worried much about them with the improved defense. A good defense had Holtby looking like a top NHL goalie. and he was what a 5th rounder?

You are not worried much about this season? After they get some real experience, I could buy that. Thats then, though, not now. Right now they are a hand grenade ready to go off

Do you know how well these kids are coached these days I have full faith that with a strong defense in front of them these goalies will be successful this season
