Copley and Fucale probably get reassigned to Hershey once Hershey starts training camp. Still have McMichael in quarantine so he’ll most likely be on the taxi squad as wellTaxi squad just like CapFriendly called it - and I still don't know why there are two goatlenders on there, other than being afraid of losing one on waivers? Trading one if Anderson gets through?

I haven’t seen anything substantial about that. IIRC they usually have a week or so of camp before they play preseason games. Obviously preseason is probably out of the picture so it could be a bit longer with some scrimmages mixed inWhen do you think Hershey's training camp starts? In 2 weeks? I'd imagine that they also have a shortened camp as well like the NHL.
Edit: err actually noticed that the AHL is set to start February 5, so in a week and a half?
Craig Anderson signed for 1 year $700K. Welcome to the Caps!
Yeah this is weird. I was told Anderson wouldn’t accept a taxi squad position given his age, accomplishments, and career earnings.

Caps goalie prospect, Gibson, could be another Holtby and not Vanecek.Posted this to Finnish subforum too, but thought it was fun enough to post here aswell.
Does history repeat itself?
If it does, Vanecek will be our next superstar goalie! Just look at the similarities to the timeline when we were going through the last goalie generation swap!
Beloved and best goalie of the franchise history Olaf Kolzig (Braden Holtby) finally came to the end with his time in DC. It was time for the new shiny toy, highly appreciated first round pick young Russian goalie Semyon Varlamov (Ilya Samsonov) to take the thrown for the next decade. They recruited a seasoned veteran, Vezina- & Hart-trophy winner Jose Theodore (Lundqvist would have been perfect fit here, but Anderson is fine too) to help the team through transition. On the background there was also another skilled young goalie Braden Holtby (Vitek Vanecek), who had been well seasoned for years in the AHL, gaining confidence and applauses in Hershey but still not much orgasationally recognized by the big team and its fans. And they also had fourth decent option for backup goalie in promising Michal Neuvirth (Pheonix Copley), but he was there basically just to challenge Varlamov and bring options for nr2.
Everyone knows how that situation ended up. Holtby grapped the spot and led Caps to their first Stanley Cup. The expected starter Varlamov was traded to Colorado for two high draft picks, of that one brought us Tom Wilson.
Theres some numbers behind this too. Draft pick numbers! Varlamov was drafted 23. overall. Samsonov was drafted 22. overall. Varlamov and Samsonov are basically the same guy, right!? Holtby was picked 93. overall. Vanecek was 39. overall? Can that be just a coincidence? Propably not. The stars have shown us the way, Vanecek will be the next Holtby. The more you look at it and compare them, the more clear it becomes. So much similarities. Too much.

Laviolette has named Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek his goaltending tandem, but there isn’t a concrete plan for how many games each will play. Instead, it will be performance-based early on, and Laviolette is expecting both netminders to fight to get time between the pipes.
“Once you get a body of work underneath you, you can evaluate and then make determinations from there,” Laviolette said. “I think we’ve got to play some games before it goes too far down that road. We’ve got to let the guys play and see where they’re at and perform and then make decisions.”
Per Lavi:
If this holds true, there is a possibility that VV outplays IS and gets the nod down the road. Will be fun to watch, like tightrope walkers without a safety net.
Yeah, I think Laviolette has been consistent with the open competition approach since camp started. He wants guys to stay focused and motivated and he also let’s everyone know that they have a role to play and he will give them a fair shake. Laviolette does a lot of little things to really keep guys on their toes and keep the compete level high. I think this approach helps build a good team culture and keeps everyone motivated.Im OK not making Sammy goalie 1 and making him earn the job

I think, if it becomes clear that the Caps need an upgrade at goalie this season, they will make a move to bring in a vet. I can’t see them giving up on this season without a fight.I am not sure it would have mattered if Lavy had stood behind him as the #1. If he stubbed his toe and stunk up his first 5 games the Caps cant wait for him this season anyway.
On the other hand having to rely on VV is a scary scenario

Shame on you AlexBro. Your comments give me the sHIVErs, so be MINDful of the rest of us? Don’t doubt the all knowing.Yeah this is weird. I was told Anderson wouldn’t accept a taxi squad position given his age, accomplishments, and career earnings.
One of the goals was a weird deflection in front of the net and another was Ovie being Ovie. He didn't play particularly poorly.VV did play well in the scrimmages, while Sammy struggled in the 2nd game (disclaimer: I did not watch the actual scrimmages myself, just going from the scoresheet).
Didn't think we had the cap space to get anyone in that wasn't on league minimum? Trading contracts back in this climate will be priceyI think, if it becomes clear that the Caps need an upgrade at goalie this season, they will make a move to bring in a vet.
