Yup exactly.which means they’re traveling with the team....practicing, same film study regimen, etc.....to be ready at the drop of a hat.
I get what you’re saying. The point I’m trying to make is it’s going to be a tough call for the NHL squad to risk developmental time versus being the 7th or 8th dman sitting in a press box most nights. Would it make sense for Fehervary, who has sat out for months now, to practice and get limited third pairing minutes? Or would the Caps look at the time he has lost so far and give him a very large role in Hershey where he’s playing top pair, PK and PP while working on adding some offensive to his tool box? There’s a few guys who definitely are going to compete for a spot and in a normal situation they’d be in Hershey with a first call up option. My thought is that the big club would rather use guys who are mainly AHL mainstays but can play in the NHL in a pinch, like a Daniel Carr or a Mike Sgarbossa over the likes of AA, Fehervary, AJF, Pilon etc who would be possibly competing for a spot on Washington. That is 7 extra players. Usually NHL teams dont go that deep unless those players are injured themselves. The Caps first defense call is Fehervary. There's no point in putting non call ups on the extended roster or taxi squad. Either Fever stays in Washington or goes to the AHL for the season.

McMichael is a completely different story. If the OHL bans hitting or keeps delaying their start date, I’d venture Washington wants him on the Taxi Squad (if that’s even allowed)
Was it known that Brooks Orpik is currently an assistant coach at BC? Thought he had some kind of a developmental role within the organization.
I don’t get what you mean by that? The taxi squad will take some good AHL players away for sure, but it still is going to be littered with talent IMO. The league has transformed quite a bit the past 3-5 years to focus more on development so there’s still going to be some very good players in the league. Look at it this way, would the Caps rather have AJF playing 2nd tier in Sweden or would they rather him getting reps in the AHL?Appears to me that the Caps have already decided that Fehervary isnt NHL ready as they have him at 9 on the depth chart. Realistically speaking, if teams are carrying 8 spare players how much value are AHL games going to have anyway?
A fine question in any other year, but this year the question is would they rather have him playing in the AHL or use the unique roster constraints to get him extended practice reps at the NHL level?I don’t get what you mean by that? I’d still argue playing games over practicing is better for development. He can get practice reps AND a big role in Hershey. Remember, the AHL rarely plays games during Monday-Thursday. They sometimes get a Wednesday game sprinkled in. The week of practice is a lot of reps and skill development and the Caps/Bears have been great at using outside resources (skills coaches, skating coaches, etc.) during their week of practice to give the guys a better prospective.A fine question in any other year, but this year the question is would they rather have him playing in the AHL or use the unique roster constraints to get him extended practice reps at the NHL level?
Is a guy like AJF going to learn more being in the AHL in a bigger role, or by learning and adjusting to NHL speed in the role he's likely to play.

Pretty ignorant take on the AHL as a whole. Will the league lose talent? Yes. Calling it watered down is way off course. And they aren’t going to play 3 teams all year cmon tx.But we arent talking about AJF. We are talking about Fehervary and AA and McMichael and Vitek. The top AHL vets are in the expanded NHL. The top NHL call up ready AHL prospects are in the NHL. Others have been loaned to Europe and are gone. Would you learn more practicing and scrimmaging and film prepping in the NHL or playing a rotating 3 teams of watered down AHL teams? Its not an easy choice.

We clearly know your opinion on it and I’ve stated mine. Moving on now.

Apparently the league is discussing putting ads on players helmets for the upcoming season. I personally wouldn’t mind it if it meant some extra revenue into the team/league. Would certainly help offset loses. They just have to make sure it’s subtle and not overbearing. Similar to how the NBA has the subtle logo on their jerseys
Weird random thought: they never credited Jay Beagle the ENG in Game 7 against the Lightning in 2018. I thought for sure there would be a scoring change after they originally gave it to Backstrom.

Per RMNB, he will still work with the Caps as well. Both are part-time gigs. Was it known that Brooks Orpik is currently an assistant coach at BC? Thought he had some kind of a developmental role within the organization.
I just watched that goal. Maybe I am not seening it right. TB player passes it out from behind the net to another TB player how doesnt handle it clean. Backstrom's blade is inside Beagle's and Beags never touches it.
The NHL should credit Jay Beagle for the Capitals’ Game Seven empty-net goal, not Nicklas Backstrom
Pretty clear gif in this article.
You can even tell by Nicky's reaction that is Beagle's goal. (on normal highlights)
