But without any Caps vs Pens game in the regular season, the motivation level for the Caps will drop. In the past years it seems like Pens is the only team that the Caps prepare themselves mentally to play against.

I hope you're right but its a lot of travel for the Canadian teams, not to mention time zones are different.

If the schedule is entirely inter division then crossing over thru the divisions for a better points percentage doesnt seem fair. What am I missing?

It's going to be a bloodbath. Whoever falters at the start is going to have a really hard time making up ground. You could make an argument that all eight of these teams are playoff contenders.

That depends entirely on what happens to the others. The Islanders are going to have to sack up quick. The Devils are looking at a first pick in the draft. They are going to be road kill

Buffalo brought in Taylor Hall and Eric Staal this offseason. The Rangers drafted Lafreniere. New Jersey seems improved, especially with Blackwood taking over the net full time. It's going to be tough sledding.
