My movie-hating origin story begins with my ninth grade PE teacher playing a sports movie every single time we had a rainy day and greater than 50% of the time it was Rudy. Gag.
This is pretty understandable. I, on the other hand, had a very influential 6th grade teacher show us Plan 9 From Outer Space. (The same teacher also covered a Pete Seeger song at a school rally. I didn't really understand much about either but, considering the Seinfeld connection to Plan 9, that teacher really helped shape me without my knowing, I guess.)

I'm really mostly impressed, though, that @Jargon cracked the code regarding your movie history. But at least tell me you've given Bull Durham and Slap Shot tries since then. Sports movies aren't all total dreck!

He helped bring about an unbelievable amount of success to the 49ers.
I ran into him on 3 occasions. I wish I hadn't.
I saw Steve Young in a Target in Roseville on the eve of 49ers training camp in Rocklin. I was a Raiders fan who actually liked Young--he was so damn fun to watch--so I thought about it, saw that no one else had any conception that it could possibly be him, and decided to leave him alone. That's my Niners QB (non-) interaction story.

If Joe Montana was rude to you when you interacted with I will choose to believe that he was justified in doing so:sarcasm:
Not directly with me. I was just very closeti the interactions he and h8s wife had with the common folk. And they weren't badgering them for pics or autographs

I use to go to the community College in Rocklin myself and watch their camp

Small world with mentions of Roseville/Rocklin. I grew up in that area and went to Sac State and even some of the people at Sac State had no idea where those were (for reference it’s like 10-20 minutes down the road)

Since we are sharing QB run ins, back when I was in college and working at one of those "natural" markets in Santa Barbara, I got to help Troy Aikman. After some small chit chat, I worked up the nerve to ask if he was making a comeback (I believe he was a year or two into retirement and there was talk he was coming back). His response was "Nice weather we are having." I took the hint 🤣

My other QB run-in was while I was in grad school in Pittsburgh, after Ben Roethlisberger's motorcycle accident, I somehow found myself right behind him in line at a suburban Best Buy. He was still in his recovery period and had a pile of like 20 DVDs to buy. I had nothing to say to that

I lived in the Rocklin/ Roseville area for about 6 years. Prior to moving there my former inlaws lived in Rocklin. Stanford Ranch was mostly stakes in the ground.

I’ve been carefully psychoanalyzing each and every one of you to find the source of your traumas.

Hodge’s absent father was a long-haired, very short man who made poor draft picks, for example.

I can’t believe my throwaway comment about Rudy got to the movie hating origin story.

I don’t care that it was not factually accurate. It was inspiring especially as a very short kid growing up.

You may think you’re being realistic but you’re just relying on trends to make your judgment. And while that is a fine approach when looking at a large data set, when analyzing an individual, you can’t just lump them into that group and say definitively that they can’t play above 3rd pairing minutes. It’s a lazy take and a clear indication that you haven’t watched the player much at all. If the reports from people who have watched him were less optimistic then I would understand your take, especially if his performance was on par with other failing or failed prospects. However, quite the opposite is taking place, and you’re still choosing to lump him in with the failures.
Yes I will start by saying I have not watched much of Cagnoni. I have read about him and the scouts say he has good skating but not elite skating. He should not have been a late first or second like some internet scouts had him as. Even the 3rd round pick where everyone wanted to pick him was too early especially when the Sharks have a solid role player in Svobada. The 4th is a great place to gamble that Cagnoni can beat the odds (which I hope he does).

There are a grand total of 3 defenseman who have played in the NHL this season listed below 5’10”. Even the great Lane Hutson is listed at 5’10. Of those 3 only Spurgeon is playing more than bottom pair minutes on a bad team.

I use objective data because I’m not a professional scout and also because there are many players that can look good in Junior or AHL who just can’t hang in the NHL.

If the Sharks draft Schaefer I would absolutely try and sell high on Cagnoni. Schaefer would be running the PP which would limit the ceiling that Cagnoni could provide and I would much rather have BDE, Muk, or Thrun behind Schaefer.

There is no selling "high" on a guy like Cagnoni, just like there's no selling "high" on Musty because he scored 2 pts per game last year in juniors where no one cares about the raw stats.

Cagnoni will be doubted the whole way until he proves he can do it in the NHL. That's just the way it is for people who don't fit the stereotype of what a successful player looks like. I have no idea if he can defend at the NHL level, but I do know he's gonna get a chance to find out.

Trust his development and don't worry about comparing him to anyone else or his height. He's doing great, and at this point in the rebuild the Sharks need all the dmen they can get.

Only high first round picks can be sold high before they make the NHL. Anyone else needs to play some NHL games to establish value otherwise we’re moving him for a similar AHL player. If we’re going to slow play Schaefer and/or Dickinson, next year needs to be an opportunity to guys like Cagnoni and Mukhamadullin to do that in the NHL or we’re going to toss them into trades for other things we need.
