i think you can win in any way as long as it’s your true identity. But I like ours more than any other.

It’s so tough it’s carefree. It says “we are going to smash you up and if you try to fire back, we are going to burn you on our 3 cannon PP. No easy goals for you.. you want us, you’re gonna have to go through us.... and that ain’t happenin.”

Haha cheers Randy. I started one GDT in the playoffs and to me it was probably the best game the Caps have ever played in the almost 20 years I’ve been watching.

And go stormy. Aussies know how to win. :)

And Burakovsky has a snowballs chance in hell of breaking out.
He's been around for a while now. We know his routine by now...a hot streak filled with multiple highlight reel goals followed by months of quietness and/or injury.

Wilson has rewarded big time by being patient with him, let's give Burakovsky a chance to. Especially since Burakovsky is far more skilled than Wilson will ever be.

Does anyone have a vid of the second hit Oshie laid on Miller? The hit/shift right after he broke his nose? I'm having a doozy of a time trying to find it.

According to Craig Custance, Kempny's narrowed his possible teams to the Capitals and one other:
There was also a lot of interest in defenseman Michal Kempney, who played really well for the Capitals after coming over in a low-key, trade-deadline deal between the Blackhawks and Capitals. A decision should be made soon on this front, with the list narrowed down to the Capitals and one other team.

I for one will not forget him absolutely destroying LeTang. Basically launched into like a missile and then answering the bell like a man. All after a little locker room speech IIRC.

Letang was HORRIBLE after that. He played 2 on 2s worse than I have ever seen a nervous rookie in their first game. I theorize Oshie. took. him. out.

Oshie is a warrior....anyone worrying right now about the last few years of his contract being an albatross doesn’t get it. Enjoy the glory and let things play out the next 2 years. Lots can change.

I think making proclamations about Bura having reached his ceiling should be done at your own risk. That dude could easily put up 25-30g in the right situation in a year or two. He needs to add some strength and give a consistent effort every night IMO. Only turns 24 NEXT Feb....

If he stays healthy (hasn’t in 2 straight seasons now) he’ll put up 20 IMO.

Has essentially an entire team ever come back after winning the Cup together? There's a chance, even if it's a low percentage chance, that the only person who doesn't come back is Chiasson.

I feel like some people punish him for being up with the Caps since he was 19, and that if he would have broken out he would have done it by now.

As you said I think it's important to remember he's still very young and has been plagued by injuries. He's very capable of being a consistent 20 goal scorer in my eyes if he can stay healthy. Just think of Kuznetsov's first full season as a 22 year old. He was no where near as productive as he is now. Patience is key.

Yea so trotz was basically getting a free ride and doing nothimg
Lambert was supposed to be coaching the forwards (like Reirden was the defensemen), so the fact that Reirden was giving them "tips" in practice doesn't really have any bearing on what Trotz was or wasn't doing.

So rierden was also coaching forwards? What was trotz doing?

It's always been deemed a collaborative effort IMO. If they're going over video as a team and any coach sees something, I don't think it matters what their usual responsibility is. They're going to help. But that level of versatility, detail and grasp of the game makes me more convinced he's ready. Again, hopefully there's still time for him to help hire a couple of equally detailed and intelligent assistants.

Do we know why Pittsburgh fired Reirden? If he's a coaching god and all?

Too many loose ends remain. Not to mention Gruby. Guessing that in the end, 4 or 5 won't be back (Chiasson, Gruby, 2-3 of Beags, Kempny, Jerabek, Orpik).

Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen remains miffed at how the Penguins handled last offseason's coaching changes, and he made no secret of it.
“The organization can say whatever it wants, that it wasn't sure what it wanted to do, all that stuff,” he said. “But it was (bull).
“It's not like Dan (Bylsma) was a chump or something, but that's how he was treated. He won you guys a Cup, you know?”
Niskanen said numerous Penguins players were angry by the way the coaches were treated

“I definitely have an opinion on it,” Orpik said. “But I don't think it does any good to share that right now. At the end of the day, it's people running a business. That's what you always hear. It's a cut-throat business. I don't think anything surprises me anymore.”
Niskanen and Orpik insisted they have no hard feelings and that, on personal levels, were treated well.
“I was always treated really well when I was there,” Niskanen said. “But, you know, I have a real problem with how those guys were treated. A lot of guys on the team were very upset by how everything happened.”

Ex-Penguins defenseman Niskanen still miffed by coaches' firings

His biggest shortcomings are between the ears. People forget he is younger than Stephenson, Boyd, Barber, and Walker and only a year older than Vrana. Those guys still have a little ways to go in figuring out the game mentally, and so does Burakovsky.

plotting his departure? I dont know.......honestly, we can let it go. Being in corporate america, I know we will see a LOT of spin in the coming weeks, as people embrace the new guy and talk about how good he is, etc. Sure, there is truth to it, but its also marketing the new guy. As it should be.

I'm not getting too hung up on it. Trotz did a lot for the organization over the 4 years. And perhaps his greatest achievement will be -- getting out of the way at the end, and winning a Cup for it.
