I think Orpik might be gone. With ever other player there's been rumours in the media about what they are thinking and planning. Absolute silence on the Orpik front.
For what it's worth, Tarik El-Bashir said earlier in the week that he doesn't see Orpik in DC next season.

He felt the comments MacLellan made at the draft in reference to a possible Orpik reunion were mostly just lip service. A way of speaking highly of Brooks on his way out, most likely.

it seems you’re just another guy that dismisses his offensive capabilities. That’s fine. It’s “blinders on”, IMO....but it’s fine.

I'm not dismissing anything. I give him all the credit in the world for the things he actually does. I'm a big fan. What I dismiss is the notion of rewarding him for stuff he doesn't do.

But here you are talking like he's just being denied PP time for no reason, when the truth is that he only potentially fits into one position in our system and those spots are filled by players that are vastly more qualified. And even if he did earn himself a spot, it'd be on the 2nd unit that doesn't log much time and doesn't score nearly as often. So these oodles of PP points he's being denied are all in your head.

I saw his hands, his touch passes, his wrist shot, his one-timers, and his slap shot. He can score.

I've been watching Wilson play since Plymouth. I know he can score. He absolutely has that potential. But don't overstate it. He doesn't have exceptional hands, doesn't have great vision or creativity, and his shot is nothing to write home about. That's never been his game. His offense has always come from his strong, fearless positional game, getting into contested areas and providing the quick finish. His deflection game has been sharpening lately, which is great.

He has a good release and his accuracy isn't bad. If he improves his overall awareness in the offensive zone, there's no reason he couldn't top 20 goals on a regular basis. But that hasn't happened yet, and there's no guarantee that it will.

So your perception is he can’t do it

Nope, never said that. He absolutely can. He just isn't, at least not yet. And it's not a lock that he will, either. He simply does not have an offensive IQ even remotely on par with his linemates. He can improve that, but it's not a given.

No one is telling him not to score, and there's nothing about his role in the offensive zone that should curtail his ability to contribute. Everyone involved would love it if he chipped in more. He just hasn't found that gear yet. I hope he turns that corner, but giving him a 6-year deal that pays him like he already has is jumping the gun.

Please. All long contracts are gambles. Team is gambling the player will play to a number (or better). Nickel and Dime Wilson now, and there’s a terrific chance you need to Carlson him in 2 years, or some other team will. You are completely dismissing that aspect of this. He’s not going to sign long term at a number under 4.5m, nor should he. Hence the 5m talk.

So you either believe in him enough to make some assumptions, or you don’t. I do. Pretty simple.

So.... you’re trying to say Burakovsky is more valuables than Tom Wilson? Is that it? His salary was 50% higher, so maybe that fits your narrative too?

I’m trying to follow you here.
I think Burakovsky played better last year than Wilson (though there is value in Wilson concussing people and not having to play against him come into play) and it shouldn't be a slam dunk to keep Wilson over Burakovsky after next year (though if Wilson comes in at 4M AAV or less they can probably keep both).

I should have put this here, not the Kempny thread...Per Izzy:

Capitals have $9.7 million left in salary-cap space, per @CapFriendly, and the only big deal left is Tom Wilson. I've heard his deal ballparked in the $3.5 million to $4.5 million range, but he's a tough one to price because his effect on the game isn't always reflected in stats.

Gotta believe that given how much space they have Burakovsky will stay unless someone blows their socks off with a deal.

We are still in need of a 5/6 D-man

Maybe Orpik will be back? Maybe another younger kid? Will be tough to put basically 2 rookies together

I’d pay Orpik $2 for 1.

Wilson 4.5
Beagle 2
Orpik 2

1.2 left....

Thats Ness and Copley.

If you can snip 500k from those three, its Bowey and Copley.

Beagle is a tough one. We can propably give him the 2 mills, but not much of term. His at the age and progression where he needs to cash in. But all his said he wants badly to return so lets see.

Orpik will need some lovemessages from the locker room to come back aswell. Hard to imagine he didnt feel any sting in his pride to be traded out as a cap dump. And obviously we cant give term for him either.

Please make it happen BM the GM! Seeing the exact same lineup on september against Bruins as we saw against Vegas in G5 would be EPIC. When has that happened the last time? 30s? (Yea, Gru wont be there, but still).

Edit. Come on people, stop linking Isabellas tweets right before my posts as it looks like im her parrot though i havent seen those before :)

Carlson and Orpik attended the Quicken Loans National golf tournament yesterday in Potomac, MD. So, Carly is working on him.

I don’t want ness anywhere near the ice during a caps game. We are past having sweater fillers play as our 6D

Thats 7D spot he gets if the cap goes too tight. He makes 650k compared to most of our young guns who make 925k

No sweater fillers. We can make do with Bowey and Djoos on the third pair and if Bowey falters, you flip a pick for a Kempny type RHD at the deadline (or even a LHD if you are fine with Djoos playing RD like this year).

Fair enough. I don’t agree with any of that, but I understand your point.
