Wilson with a Marcus Johansson # at 4.5
Kempny just north of a Nate Schmidt # at 2.5
DSP with a comparable Connolly contract of 2 years at 1.5

I would rather sign Orpik or Green at a discount rather then overpay Beagle. Stephson can play 4C on a rookie contract.

Kempay may get 3 mill and Wilson 4mill
I think all our Free agents may cost 10-15% more then we wanted

Orpik could come back at the league min after getting buy out money.
DSP is a RFA so he should be cheap if it goes to ARB with his poor RS production

We will feel the loss of Beagle on the PK and at the dot..

LOL. Holy hyperbole....No it wont!

Nothing...and I mean this......Not A Damned Thing....can erase the happy feelings. How could it? Mike Green? Meh, they could do a lot worse as a bottom 3 d-man.

If GMBM thinks he can help this team, then I am with it. We should have learned that we need to trust the architect.

For all we know, Green would replace Orpik. Not Kempny. I doubt it, but am excited to see how it all plays out.

Kempny would be okay at 3M, but it should be less. He can slot to the third pair hopefully when one of the young defenseman develop more (Djoos, Bowey, Johansen)

Yes. We need to fill out the roster. Adding means a player thats currently not under contract to the Caps.

Could be a Kempny, an Orpik, a Beagle, or a DSP....or someone outside (lol, the Mike Green hate, or a Tobias Rieder, or a Mark Letestu, or....well, you get the drift).

I imagine the team will spend to about the cap. Perhaps leave some monies aside for cap accrual for the TDL, but not much (less than 1m, I'd wager, if even).

Unless they get stymied on everyone (no Kempny, no Orpik, no Beagle, no DSP, no veterans added), and just got with all AHL/kids. Then they could have 2-3m of left over space, no matter what Wilson gets.

13m now. Wilson gets 4.5...that leaves 8.5 to play with.

When you have Reirden and already have seen adequate second pair performance through a successful Cup run then, no, I think you're being overly harsh in your assessment. What he is and what he could become in short order are also different things. Don't forget that he has little in the way of NHL experience. He didn't kill penalties because there was little use to throw him into that role and they had little time to work on it. But there will be ample opportunity next season, esp. if Orpik doesn't return. For him to come in and play at that level was extremely impressive and in no way was he simply carried by Carlson and the coaching staff. As for alternatives at the time, given their cap constraints, they very likely would have been more of the Jerabek variety.

But you don’t know for sure what GMBM could have made a move for. Are many of his trades on your radar ahead of time? I think not.

Count me in the camp that doesn’t think 6 was carried by 74. I think he was a nice compliment.

Honestly 3 mill doesn't get you a lot nowdays. That's number 4 defenseman money, which is what Kempny is. Considering he has room to improve as well, I'm okay with that.
