GDT: caps at rongos

Lose in the 1st or 2nd round is what would probably happen and we'd end up drafting in the middle of the first round.

If there's a time to tank, it's this season.

Let's resume the talk, which one Drouin/Jones or Mackinnon.

I like the Seth Jones story. Basketball dad, good size.

I'm just worried that he is overhyped because he's from a non traditional development area-Colorado and American. It's a good story. He'd likely sell jersey's and be a media darling. Whether he's the real deal and worth a high pick would have to be seen. I don't think he will be a Doughty and a difference maker until many years down the road.

I'll blame this on you being unfamiliar with East Coast geography.

Yesterday's game ended at around 3:30 PM. Even if they were driving a 1960 VW bug from LI back to Virginia, they would have rolled in no later than 11:00 PM. They should have actually been back in D.C. at 8:00 PM last night if not sooner.

Oops, thought they played a night game on Long Island. If that was an afternoon game, than that's fair.

This is simply a low hockey IQ team, with a couple of exceptions. Bad decisions, bad positioning on both ends, etc. Everyone short of Backstrom, Alzner, Green (yes Green), and Orlov should be potential blow-up material. I would trade Kuznetsov's rights for a mid to high first round draft pick this year; don't particularly care whether he is on this team or not, guy has Radulov written all over him.

Jones will not get "years" in Washington. His background is a dream for selling tickets and this franchise would blow smoke up his ass from day 1 without regard for his development.

#Caps still salty. A player noted ref Dean Morton also worked Sat.'s game in NYC. Called 3 4-minute penalties on them in 3 periods.

The fact that this team even thinks like this pisses me off to no end. Embarrassing they'd be grasping at these sort of straws.

No accountability and it starts at the top.

I don't think the 2nd call on AO was legit, but even if it didn't happen... the game was over right there: we scored only 1 goal, and that was their 2nd.

Forget his past stats, he's not scoring now, and neither is anyone else. 2 goals in 2 games will not win you many games.

OH... and I realize we scored 3, but the truth is, the Isles scored for us on the first one.

We need a shakeup, but Adam is too new to blame, and the Caps make money. And we can't fire Ted, except with our wallets.

you know ovechkin won 2 harts and 3 lindsays right?

edit: o wow 4th, now i see your just trolling

And Bondra took a team to the Finals. Need I cite Hunter's effort, and clutch playoff play? And Gartner was just a scoring machine.

Much of what a player does is based in effort... and all 3 of those had it in spades.

AND... I don't recall seeing them sit in the penalty box when their goalies took penalties.

EDIT: someone should run that stat: dollars to doughnuts, AO leads the team all-time in sitting out for the goalie after a penalty. What an honor.

Ovechkin's ppg is .18 higher than Gartner's in a Caps uni. GPG is .9 better. Bondra isn't even on the radar.

For point of reference, the difference between Gartner and Mike Ridley is only .11 in ppg.

When you adjust for era, on a per game basis, it's Ovechkin and no one even close.

The issue is that the caps won't finish in the bottom 5 with their current team. Their currently 5th worst, with games in hand to play, have played their worst, and have had terrible luck. If all that continues (unlikely) Washington could sneak in there and get the 5th overall pick, but Jones McKinnon and Drouin will all be gone by then.

Their best play is to make a run at the playoffs, look at where LA was at the midpoint of last season.

It's interesting that you value points over achievement.

I'd wager most would rate Bondra and Hunter taking their team to the Finals as the greatest moment in our history.

It's certainly mine.

Zomg! totes! That makes Craig Berube the greatest left winger in Caps history too!

This team will NOT make the playoffs. Finishing 9th or 10th is unlikely and would be a disaster. But it's really all moot so long as GMGM has the reins.

Ovie is bar-none the greatest Cap ever. The Olympics ****ed him up. He needs a sports shrink and a new off-season trainer. Unless Sochi totally destroys him, I still think there's hope.

EDIT: Think how he used to talk about wanting a Cup. When was the last time? It's the Olympic embarrassment that crushed him.

The best players to ever wear a Caps jersey are Ovechkin, Fedorov, Stevens and Langway.

The best season for the Caps belongs to either Ovechkin or Langway.

Ovechkin is the best forward this team has ever had by miles. Miles.

LOL... you stepped in that one. I'd wager most Caps fans would love to see in in uniform right now.

OH... and I don't recall Dale or Bondra setting out a goalie penalty. They wanted to be on the ice.

The schedule and trading Ribeiro would make it very feasible. Even if they don't finish bottom three it's not a three player draft. Those three get a lot of press but Barkov, Lindholm or Monahan each have strong 2C potential. Having that in the fold would be more valuable going forward than some twisted notion that this team is a contender (even after trading quality futures for an immediate piece or two).

Maybe trading a decent fit in Ribeiro costs them in the short-term but in the short-term they're just not very good. They're second-rate through and through and it goes beyond personnel.

Feds... only if you count his time with the Re. ...... err.... you know. ;)

Yes to Stevens and Langway... dropping AO even further down the list.

Except LA was a dominant possession team last season, despite their record at the midpoint. Caps are, at best, middle of the road there. This Caps team is a borderline team even if you take out the cold start, and their play on the road (outside the division) is poor enough that they could easily end up bottom 5.
