I realize Ovechkin is going no where. Leonsis is a businessman first and a fan second. He just needs to look around the Verizon Center at all of the fans wearing Ovechkin gear.

The problem is that this team should no longer have Ovechkin as the center piece. Remove the C from his jersey and along with it comes the weight from his shoulders. I think his game changed after he got the C.

Being the team Captain has become a distraction/nuisance for him and in return has impacted his play.

He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts...for support rather than illumination.

Of course, since stats were introduced to the entire conversation by someone in favor of the Ovechkin 'bust' argument (Ovechderp has 9 derps while the leaderp has 19 derps), introducing Ovechkin's career stats and his goal total from last year in support of a counterargument was absolutely warranted and Ovechkin's career speaks more to the point that he's not a bust than it does that he is.

If we can't judge a 27 year-old goal-scorer's career by the goals he scores, then what?
