No team, not even cup champs, keep their teams exactly the same every season. The Cap is one reason, but there are others as well.

The team struggled in the playoffs and failed to meet expectations. That's enough reason to make some changes. The cap is another.

Give it time. Maybe you are right and they'll fail miserably, but the focus should be building for the playoffs, not going 9-0-1 (or whatever they did last year) in October and struggle in the playoffs.

I never said they'd fail miserably. I'm just stating they got noticeably worse from last year, and the playoff problems are not going to be fixed. I get that salary is an issue but they could have gotten creative- a Gardiner buyout, un-assing Bear on time, etc.

And folks that think that a 33 year old injury prone Patches is just going to magically waltz in at the end of the year after a severed achilles tendon and light it up are high on wombat shit.

This changes made to this lineup were predicated on the theory that old, household name vets who had never won a cup were somehow going to inspire the rest of the team to be playoff winners. I think that is a flawed theory.

Any changes to the roster should have been to get bigger, tougher, and meaner. Not older. Okay, so Tkachuck didn't work out, at least they went after him but maybe find others in that mold.

He's due back in 6 weeks, and why would a guy that was a 1st liner last year just fall off a cliff production-wise?

I never said they'd fail miserably.

By "fail miserably" I meant maybe the front office will have failed miserably with the changes they made to try and improve the team. I didn't mean the team would fail miserably.

From my understanding, Gardiner was injured and thus ineligible for a buyout. Even so, LTIR is actually a BETTER solution from a cap POV than buying him out. We'd have part of his cap hit on the books with a buyout, we can use the full amount with LTIR. Even if they "un-assed" Bear, with Necas getting a $3M raise, TDA getting a $4M raise, Trocheck getting a $1M raise (Plus 7 years), etc.... it wouldn't have worked and we would have essentially had the same team that failed.

I don't think that was the theory at all. I think the theory is that we were missing a scoring winger and needed a guy that they thought could reliably play on the top pairing. They didn't feel TDA was that guy. Remember, they went after Marchment and Tkachuk so they weren't looking for "old guys" to "inspire the team".

They went after Marchment and Tkachuk. Weren't a lot of other options that were either young enough, or affordable enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see that to and have commented on it.

On the plus side, a lot of our guys aren't playing well and the team hasn't gelled and are still winning games. I think there's room for improvement as the season goes on and hopefully we'll see it.

"How to lose $44B in a few easy steps!" by Elon Musk

Maybe I'm wrong and he has marketing data to show this will work, but I can't imaging most of his content providers and advertisers want to hang around on a site that is selling porn. Who knows?

Are we really questioning this guy's business savvy? And on a hockey forum? ffs

I mean, Tumblr sank when it got rid of NSFW content. Maybe he thinks going the opposite route will work, but if he isn't aware... there's free porn all over the internet.

More specifically: Tumblr sank because Yahoo wanted in on the 'buy up a social media platform' craze, then realized 'oh shit this furry porn site somehow isn't worth 1 billion'

Then they ruined Yahoo too but that's an internet tale for another time...

Sure, why not? Being good at some areas of business do not make you good at all areas of business. I probably don't want Connor McDavid in goal, and if he starts telling people how to play goalie, I will probably comment about it.

PatcHO will combine for 250pts. It is destiny.
So, when Patches comes back, I think everyone assumes he will end up on a line with Aho given how that line is under performing now and how the second line is killing it. If so, who gets moved down; Teuvo or Jarvis. At first, my assumption was Teuvo, but then you have three shooters on the same line and I'm not sure that works well. It may be better to move Teuvo back to the RW of Aho's line and then put Max on the LW, giving TT back his prefered side and keeping a pass first player on the top line with Max and Aho.

My 2-cents, anyway.

Nino is the real missed opportunity from the offseason IMO. Not signing Trocheck to a 7 year deal was absolutely the right move, and between TDA and Burns I'd rather have Burns. Even if I end up being wrong on that one, I don't think the difference will be all that meaningful. Might be hard to blame the GMBC for Nino's agent misjudging the market, but I would much rather have him than, say, Bear, Kase, and Stastny.
