I think it's less about the personnel changes and more about:
1) figuring out the PP
2) figuring out the Special teams
3) having a healthy goalie and healthy team.

Number 3 is kind of funny when we added Kase (super injury prone), Patches (missed a lot of time over the past few seasons), and Burns...grandpa wookie. Getting older is usually not a recipe to stay healthier.

I never said they'd fail miserably. I'm just stating they got noticeably worse from last year, and the playoff problems are not going to be fixed. I get that salary is an issue but they could have gotten creative- a Gardiner buyout, un-assing Bear on time, etc.

And folks that think that a 33 year old injury prone Patches is just going to magically waltz in at the end of the year after a severed achilles tendon and light it up are high on wombat shit.

This changes made to this lineup were predicated on the theory that old, household name vets who had never won a cup were somehow going to inspire the rest of the team to be playoff winners. I think that is a flawed theory.

Any changes to the roster should have been to get bigger, tougher, and meaner. Not older. Okay, so Tkachuck didn't work out, at least they went after him but maybe find others in that mold.

I agree with a lot of your points.

I think the problem is those mean players who are big are always drafted high which is why you can find a Jarvis type later. Damn I would love to have another Michael Ferland....even just a 25g 25a tough sob like that.

One of the best shots at one of those players was E. Kane last year. I have no clue how that would've worked out but it doesn't sound like we were in on that. I think trading Turbo for someone like that would round out the roster a lot more.

I'll add on the idea of inspiration....that seems kind of what's up right now...Aho and TT seem to be in a rut where they're like...it's the regular season...and I'm going to guess...but they don't seem confident the team will make it to the SCF. We seem almost in Leaf land where that team just sees themselves as a 1st rd exit in 7 games and changes to the supporting cast aren't inspiring the troops.

"How to lose $44B in a few easy steps!" by Elon Musk

Maybe I'm wrong and he has marketing data to show this will work, but I can't imaging most of his content providers and advertisers want to hang around on a site that is selling porn. Who knows?

To me, the red flag is that his "new ideas" aren't actually new ideas. Paying for verification is basically just requiring check marks to purchase Twitter Blue. Paying for locked content is the OnlyFans model. Free speech absolutism is... let's call it the 4chan model.

I have to think all of these ideas have been discussed to death by anyone who works for any social media company. There's a reason they don't lock content behind a paywall. The entire point of a social network is to be ubiquitous, and that literally cannot happen if they transition from a free to a paid service.

Fair point, but our injuries in the last few playoffs weren't age related.

Ferland, Slavin, Pesce, Hamilton, Jarvis, Andersen (maybe he qualifies),

So, when Patches comes back, I think everyone assumes he will end up on a line with Aho given how that line is under performing now and how the second line is killing it. If so, who gets moved down; Teuvo or Jarvis. At first, my assumption was Teuvo, but then you have three shooters on the same line and I'm not sure that works well. It may be better to move Teuvo back to the RW of Aho's line and then put Max on the LW, giving TT back his prefered side and keeping a pass first player on the top line with Max and Aho.

My 2-cents, anyway.
Agree, I would go Patches with the Finns. Jarvis has been just as ineffective as Turbo so far this season in my eyes.

Sure, why not? Being good at some areas of business do not make you good at all areas of business. I probably don't want Connor McDavid in goal, and if he starts telling people how to play goalie, I will probably comment about it.
Well....he isn't a one off...he's got a track recored & has been wildly successful to-date (PayPal, SpaceX, Tesla)

He definitely suckered the Government into ensuring Tesla would be successful. I give him that. The amount of money that other automakers have paid Tesla for "carbon credits' so that they don't have to pay gov't fines for not having enough eco friendly vehicles is staggering. It's well over $1B in 2021 alone. The company wouldn't have been profitable many of the quarters/years in the past without it and is only recently profitable without the credits. Governments basically kept Tesla afloat through these credits for year.

What really kept Tesla afloat were emissions credits, namely the sale of these credits. Since Tesla manufacturers electric vehicles, it receives carbon credits from various clean energy government incentives. Tesla then turns around and sells these credits to other automakers in the field, like General Motors for instance.

Governments worldwide have incentivized automakers to develop electric vehicles in exchange for credits. Since Tesla only sells electric cars, it can receive these credits for free and then turn around to sell them at a substantial profit to other automakers that aren’t yet able to meet the regulatory requirements.

I'm sure he'll be successful with Twitter one way or another.

True but that’s what global Governments wanted….a more carbon free world and his product line matched that need to get him off the ground.

FWIW: favorable Government tax policies have applied to many industries over the years.

As you can surmise, I’m a big Tesla fan both product wise and investing in the stock.

I think this is a good observation. I have wondered if even Slavin is a little burned out by yet another reclamation project. Also, how has the player turnover affected things behind the scenes? Did they lose a heart and soul guy? 30% is a lot of change..almost a mini-rebuild of a successful venture.

Still feels shaky and like a work in progress at this point to me but I can see why the players and fans could feel a little less confident. Compared to recent seasons, the games feel a little flat and the effort a touch low energy to me outside of the Necas/Svechy contributions.

By that logic, we should never question Rod Brind'Amour's lines or powerplay lineups as he has won a cup and multiple individual awards and turned this franchise around. Wildly successful to-date.

But we will question him.

Even if we don't know shit.

Yes, true capitalism doesn't exist, but that's getting too far off topic.

You can be a fan of a product/stock and still recognize that he suckered governments, is successful, and yet isn't a likable guy. Steve Jobs for instance (and countless others).

Like I said, I'm sure he'll be successful as he has been, and if he isn't, it won't hurt him much at all.
