Maybe the Capitals will keep it up but secretly fudge some numbers here and there, then make a trade with an altered player with the idea that the other team uses CapFriendly and messes up the trade.

Ohh makes sense. They’re going to use it with their organization and by them purchasing other teams can’t use it. I’d be shocked though if other teams this day and age didn’t have their own version or program they use for similar uses as cap friendly.
But that would require hiring and paying someone who knows how to use Excel (which also costs money).

So assuming another capfriendly will eventually become available, what is the allure to the Caps for buying this?

If its replicable, how much proprietary value does it have?

I think this is for the best capfriendly never really lived up to what capgeek was.

There will definitely be a third iteration there is too much public add revenue waiting for the next person to do it. Wish I had the website building expertise to do it

This is absolutely terrible news for us

And Washington knows it. They just don't give af

Don't they have access to this stuff internally anyway?!?
If they don't have their own systems in place already, that's pretty laughable - and if it's just a matter of wanting an upgrade, can't they just purchase/license the CF infrastructure without closing down the public site?

As mentioned in the thread, there are other sites available.

This is what I was wondering. Maybe the site makers don’t want to put in the work anymore though?

Only winners in this are the golden Knights, who are suddenly not the most disliked team in hockey.

f*** the capitals.

Doubtful this is much of a competitive advantage - most NHL teams likely have their own internal systems or would be able to get them made within 3-4 months. They aren't particularly complex.
