Richards has a long sucessful career, wtf are you talking about he hasn't earned the fourth chance in a shootout on this team with Miller out of the lineup?
What does his career have to do with his play this season?
He's been putrid. He continues to be one of the worst players on the team, night in and night out. He hasn't earned his chance in the shootout. Sorry to break it to you, but Torttorelle dropped the ball on this one. I know he can do no wrong in your eyes, though, so I don't even know why I bother arguing.
I'm not even a Tortorella hater - I wasn't before this season, at least. He has not done a good job getting the best out of his roster this season, period. There's no reason that a team with Nash, Callahan, Stepan, Hagelin, McDonagh, Girardi, Lundqvist, Gaborik, Richards, Staal, and Del Zotto should be fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot.
And you're calling this a terrible Torts decision so you must think the other guys were a virtual lock to score. Either that or you don't understand subjective differences of opinion as compared to objective facts.
And don't worry, you're far from the only person making these mistakes.
Nope, it's a terrible decision because Richards has been terrible, both on the ice and in the shootout. You don't put terrible players in the shootout, let alone in the 4th round of one. Waiting for the inevitable "Christensen was a terrible player" post, but he was a shootout specialist. Richards is not.
