Post-Game Talk: Capitals @ Rangers 3/24/13

Of all the things to criticize Torts on tonight, can we pick something besides the freaking shoot-out lineup? It's a coin toss for God's sake. Complete Monday morning quarterbacking.

Disappointed as I am in the result and how so many offensive opportunities turn into dust, I am happy to see what tentatively appears like a 4th line that doesn't hate the thought of scoring.

I slagged Newbury(port) mercilessly prior to this game. That was because he sucked mercilessly every callup prior to this one.
Good job by him tonight. Can he keep it up? Hope so.

A lotta loose puks in the crease that have to be finished . Not sure why we struggle so bad in tight

lol hank is being a little bit of a dick saying "there is too much talk about" letting in the first goal 20 times this season. Dont let in the first goal and reporters wont ask ;)

It sums up the stupidity and rigidity of John Tortorella. A single decision that relies on simply looking at the trends, facts and the depth in the line up.

This is the same with the GRN line for the last 7 games, this is the same with his inability to coach offense and the same with not recognizing what type of talent he has and the type of weaknesses and the style that would be more effective.

Really amazed at how this team fails to show up for the first periods of a game, especially at home. Just maybe Torts should start the game with the 4th line, to provide some energy. At least its a NEW idea, because what is going on now just ain't working IMHO.
Richards NEEDS to be sat down/scratched for a game. He's literally bringing every line he plays with down, including Nash. If you put the top center of practically every other team in the East (excluding maybe Florida now) on this team, we'd probably be fighting for the top spot in the conference, despite our obvious holes/flaws.

blowing up the GRN line was a good move. gaborik playing LW with boyle on the other hand not so much

Of all the glaring, biting flaws this team has, most of the discussion is the shootout lineup and Callahan's leadership. Excuse me while I stroke my beard in disbelief.

Richards has a long sucessful career, wtf are you talking about he hasn't earned the fourth chance in a shootout on this team with Miller out of the lineup?

What does his career have to do with his play this season?

He's been putrid. He continues to be one of the worst players on the team, night in and night out. He hasn't earned his chance in the shootout. Sorry to break it to you, but Torttorelle dropped the ball on this one. I know he can do no wrong in your eyes, though, so I don't even know why I bother arguing.

I'm not even a Tortorella hater - I wasn't before this season, at least. He has not done a good job getting the best out of his roster this season, period. There's no reason that a team with Nash, Callahan, Stepan, Hagelin, McDonagh, Girardi, Lundqvist, Gaborik, Richards, Staal, and Del Zotto should be fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot.

And you're calling this a terrible Torts decision so you must think the other guys were a virtual lock to score. Either that or you don't understand subjective differences of opinion as compared to objective facts.

And don't worry, you're far from the only person making these mistakes.

Nope, it's a terrible decision because Richards has been terrible, both on the ice and in the shootout. You don't put terrible players in the shootout, let alone in the 4th round of one. Waiting for the inevitable "Christensen was a terrible player" post, but he was a shootout specialist. Richards is not.

Canucks fan here. You guys are my favourite Eastern team, and as a goalie I'm a huge fan of Henrik.
So, does your team need patience from Torts, a shakeup by Slats, or a five hour bag skate?
Curious what you guys think. You have SO much talent on your roster that most believed this year would eclipse last year in terms of success.

Too young to remember 1994, huh? :P

You think if we miss the playoffs this year it would be the end of Torts? Missing the playoffs twice in 4 years

"Huge to get a point"

That's what this Rangers season has become. ****

Need two in Philly. Less than two in Philly, backs against the wall in Ottawa and in Montreal.

i want a coach who doesnt pick the shootout guys based on their jam/golden boys

We score 1 goal if Holtby doesn't put in a Stepan pass. 1 goal

I just cant with this crap right now.......
