I'm guessing they're not going to rebrand since the new place isn't far off

Sorry, not you specifically, but some of the collective crowd. Longer story is that the Potomac Yards area was an old rail yard area and the metro bypassed it when built. Railyard left ages ago, a giant strip mall was built over most of it, with some railyard area still undeveloped, and the neighborhood around it was fairly low income. In recent years it's been developing, a metro station was added (opening earlier this year), and VA has been wanting to redevelop the old rail yard area and strip mall into new housing and office space for Amazon HQ2. The new arena would be the centerpiece of a new neighborhood built more or less entirely from scratch, a la Hudson Yards in NYC or the Wharf here in DC. So it's a big open site, not tightly constrained like the current one, and the overall development project will be the multiple billions in profit kind.
What’s funny is that HQ2 and divesting everything to basically go all in on National Landing was likely going to be a massive failure for JBG Smith. This probably saves their ass and more.

We go there once a month to our favorite EDM club / venue on the east coast because its an amazing space and they have great acts, but at this point, I'm carrying dirty because there's no way I'm going into Brentwood unarmed.
Verizon/Mci/Cap One is like Atlantic City. They said it would revitalize the area and it did in close. 3-4 blocks north or east is basically the same shiitehole it always was.

What is "Northern Virginia" in this context? Are they just moving to Arlington?

Kinda seems like a ploy to get money from DC for renovations and such.
Northern Virginia or nova is suburbann dc.
the area is generally alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax county, thrn loudon county and prince william county. eastern loudon county is where Dulles airport. Dulles to dc is similar to denver downtown to its main airport

It kind of pisses me off when a billionaire owner wants hundreds of millions of dollars from the government to fund his for-profit sports team. Meanwhile he's supporting politicians campaigning on reducing government spending on things like healthcare.
Getting rich is sometimes a side effect of greed

As for if it's cool or not I leave that to wash fans good luck ! I hope you like whatever happens !

Officially official. The Capitals are leaving their arena in downtown DC and will be breaking ground on a huge new complex in Alexandria, VA in 2025 with plans to open the arena in 2028.

in theory yes but still has to go through community board meetings and legislative votes

curious how that ends up because you can already hear the grumbling from people in the area saying NIMBY

So Ted Leonsis can play real estate mogul in Northern Virginia and build his brand

at the expense of Maryland fans

Wish the Virginia Ted Leonsis Capitals the best

f*** you ted
I drove out to Landover for over a decade as a kid. Took an hour to get there, sometimes more. This new stadium is right across the DC border and less than 4 miles from the old arena. It is hardly an FU to MD fans.

I think it’s dumb putting arenas and stadiums out in the suburbs but this spot seems like a relatively central, urban location so whatever.
