Lamb - icelandic/norweign indie filmed entirely on a remote sheep farm w 3 actors in it total.

If AI wrote a norweign indie film it would follow this script .. lots of long view shots of beautiful but isolated landscape, lots of farm work silently being done, lots of staring out windows, lots of wind sound effects .. and of course __________. I wont spoil it.

------------------------------

^^ most disturbing movie Ive ever seen ... also a norweign indie film.

Just soooo disturbing. You cant unwatch. You cant unknown.

I start out disliking Mahomes but over the course of the show changed my mind. He has his moments on field where he can be obnoxious but does seem like a nice enough guy.

He sure does sound like one of the Muppets though! Cookie Monster, maybe Ernie.

His wife: personally I found her to be quite trailer trashy. Very loud and annoying. And judging from the reactions of some of the people around her in the show, I'm not the only one.

No doubt, I think most of her reactions during games were alcohol induced. As much screen time as they gave her and other wives, show should have been called Quarterback and their wives.

It’s pretty compelling to see the family side of things…

I thought Infinity Pool was pretty good, X was okay for what it was

But its subjective
I'm a big fan of horror and it's pretty difficult to find anything new and original that is worth watching. It's either a rehash of something that's been done before or using CGI as a device for gratuitous violence and gore (Terrifier / Art the Clown).

You have to do a little branching and get into the "horror genre lovers" genre, like Barbarian. It doesn't need to be Scream but there are levels of the genre that seem to have been raised on the cycle you're talking about and make strong efforts to subvert it while still keeping the grit.

There are still gems out there…

And Fwiw…Terrifier 2, I liked better than the first.

Gem….(Barbarian)….

Plowing through Twisted Metal. A good mix of action and humor.
Plowed through about 5 episodes it is decent entertaining. Episode length seems to be spot on. Always enjoyable to see an older STI rolling around. Just the opening seen with the 50 cal was a bit farcical would have torn that subie to pieces, heh.

I guess it depends on what you call "New" horror. It's been almost 10 years since It Follows (2014) came out at this point, and 5+ years since Hereditary (2018), Get Out (2017), and The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016). I think the past 12-18 months has been kinda underwhelming, but not outright bad. Smile had so much potential, but fumbled the ball so hard in the 2nd half of the movie. Barbarian was good, but kinda tried to do too many things over the course of the movie and did some of them far better than others. I did really enjoy Evil Dead Rise, but it's not trying to break new ground.

Is there a bunch of crappy, run-of-the-mill horror out there? Sure. But there's also plenty of really original stuff. There's also tropes and common themes within the indie horror stuff, but each often brings their own vision and perspective to make it engaging. Tons of movies using horror to explore trauma (Hereditary, Midsommar, The Ritual, Smile, It Follows, the Babadook, etc). Tons of horror movies that are self-aware and deconstructing the genre (Scream, Cabin in the Woods, Dale and Tucker vs. Evil, Shaun of the Dead, etc).

Not sure where the rest of my ramble was going, so I'm just gonna drop some trailers below:

I haven't seen Barbarian yet but i do plan on it.

Haven't seen the second Terrifier - probably won't bother. I do understand the intention is to shock / gross people out etc with over the top violence. I guess it's called "splatter horror" or something like that. I enjoy the older versions of this, like Friday the 13th (at the same time recognising how stupid the stories are and how poorly they've aged).

I recently re-watched Dog Soldiers because I remembered it as this great werewolf movie and, to be fair, the story itself is still very good imo, but the special effects and werewolf's are laughably bad.

And I would highly recommend Bone Tomahawk, a movie that contains some very graphic violence, but it's a necessary part of telling the story in order to make the viewer fully appreciate just how bad ass the "troglodytes" are.

Both of those movies look good. Especially the "Heart Can't Beat..." one.

Hereditary - stupid.
It Follows - really enjoyed it.
Get Out was really good.
Autopsy of Jane Doe - fantastic.
Smile - haven't seen it.

Some recommendations: Let The Right One In. Speak No Evil (frustrates the hell out of most people but that's because they take it literally and miss the point). Sinister (Ethan Hawke)

I Saw The Devil (Korean).

Dead Set (British zombie short series, pretty campy and entertaining).

 yes i'm aware that calling Hereditary "stupid" is considered blasphemy in most quarters.

Maybe I used the wrong word. I just found the whole thing kind of got more and more ridiculous as it went on - which in fairness was probably the entire point of the story. Toni Collette is an amazing actress, no doubt about that.

Anyway this is what makes us all different, right? Having opinions and not sharing the same view about everything.

There are a lot of people who think that Ari Aster walks on water. I haven't seen Beau Is Afraid but I've heard generally bad things about it, and comments to the effect that Aster is disappearing up his own ass, lol.

Check out his short film The Strange Thing About The Johnsons (you will probably only find it on youtube). That is a very clever piece of storytelling and might be (imo) the best thing he's ever done.
