So the weird episode removal didn't fix itself on transition and it's weird and disappointing to have a season start on episode 15, but...

at the same time they gave me Mythbusters so like... net neutral? I don't like losing content I previously had but at least there's a small handful of new content I'll want to watch instead?

Could do without all the TLC clutter though

EDIT: also I finally stopped putting it off and started watching Curb Your Enthusiasm but holy shit, it's so hard to get through more than like 3 episodes at a time. Not because they're not good or funny, but because it's so tremendously awkward and full of unforced errors I just start going "goddamn it I can't with you anymore, man, make good decisions"

So was stuck on the roughly $15 dollar legacy add free. No ability to modify the subscription finally had to cancel (which runs out June 23rd) to then make any choice on subscription levels. I might just hold off for a while just not much that perks my interest there though there are some series like Succession that I'm only partially the way through.

End of the Tour - decent "coffee and cigarettes" type movie where 2 writers one played by Jason Segal and other Jessie Eisenberg sit around and talk to each other. One is a journalist for rolling stone (who hasnt broken through yet) who is interviewing and other who is the hot new acclaimed author (who has broken through).

Basically 2 guys talking for an hour and half. Smart dialogue that becomes repetitive towards the end.

Well acted, fans of both and they didnt disappoint.

Not a Friday or Saturday entertainment night movie

Hey guys, thinking of being more economical and moving to Hulu, but I notice no NHL network. Is there a way to get around that for watching games on NHL network (I will have ESPN+)? Any around here experienced with this? Basically $40/month cheaper than the DirectTV Ultimate. I’m in the DC area. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have Hulu live and yeah sucks not having the NHL Network. Only game around getting it for a period of time is doing the fuboTV trial.

fubo tv's focus is more on the sports side. Head to head Hulu live seems the best for content.

The above cnet article has a nice channel comparison.

Im also going to cut the cable and go either youtubetv or hulu live. Paying for each box, then having to pay for HD and DVR etc .. f*** those guys.

------

Blinded by the Light - what an awful f***ing movie. 91% on rotten maybe bc its all sap. Just watch the trailer and skip the movie.

X - was hoping for more glutenous over the top gore. Decent movie but maybe my expectations were to high.

Switched to Hulu Live with the Disney+/Espn bundle and have the cloud DVR for the past year plus. It is decent again my main complaint is not having the NHL channel.

Cloud DVR can be problematic in the past six months or so. Late recording or glitching out a couple of minutes in forcing one to skip the episode. Also if one is watching something like DVR delayed it won't let you skip over the commercials for some stuff.

Ted Lasso season (series?) finale was pretty close to perfection.

That first scene was a huge sleight of hand, really had me going for a second. Really happy that Rebecca and the Dutch Guy reconnected and she "found" her family like the psychic told her. I was rooting for that since Amsterdam. Loved how Rebecca sold half the team to the fans. We knew Ted was going home, nothing interesting there. Liked how Keeley chose neither, and Nates's arc completed properly. Also loved Beard from start to finish. Great game too.

Ted Lasso series finale. Went a bit to sappy imo but Ted is sap. Show has cussing/lots of sex references etc so it wasnt a family friendly show to begin wiht.

We enjoyed it. Good light comedy series.

Any suggestions for a good comedy series? Something like Lasso or Good Place, something along those lines.

House of Lies. Not a family comedy from a couple years ago.

Finally watched Top Gun Maverick.

I’m not a military guy as many of you suspect, but I give this movie a very solid 12 thumbs up and much better than the original which clocked in at a meager 9 thumbs up.

Follow the writers. So for The Good Place it's Mike Schur. The Office (US), Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine -- all very good shows. He has a new one on Peacock called Rutherford Falls, but I haven't seen it.

For Ted Lasso it's Bill Lawrence. Spin City, Scrubs, Cougar Town -- all very good shows. This year he created the show Shrinking with Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent on Ted Lasso) that stars Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, and it's excellent.

Parks and Rec if you haven’t seen it yet. Full stop. One of my favorite shows ever. A bit slow at first like The Office but it’s the best.

I recently rewatched Parks and Rec and it's still great. It's much more "wholesome" (or whatever you'd like to call it) and much less of that awkward/painful humor than the Office. It's basically just a funny show about friendship. So yeah, if you like the wholesome/light comedy of Ted Lasso, Parks and Rec is a good option to look into.

That’s a great way to recap it. It’s just easy and enjoyable to watch. The writing is perfect and the characters are all awesome. I liked it better than The Office (especially the last few seasons of The Office which were a bit shitty) and I really liked The Office.

I’ll put it this way: if I’ve had a few and am looking for something easy to watch that puts me in a good mood, I’ll watch Parks and Rec. if I can’t find anything else and I’m tired of scrolling through Netflix/Max trying to find something, I’ll watch Parks and Rec.

I’m watching The Goldbergs…in season 7, watching with my wife/daughter….I think it’s pretty funny.

Modern Family is worth a watch also.

Parks and Rec never excited me, but The Office I wasn’t gaga over either…..so cringy on purpose that’s it’s a tough style for me to stomach more than small doses…but when I do catch a repeat, they’re funny.

I loved Parks and Rec but could never get into the Office. There are parts of it I like a lot but the cringe is too central to the humor and I can't stand all the second-hand embarrassment.

Yeah, the sweet spot with Parks and Rec was toward the end of the second season when they brought in Adam Scott and Rob Lowe (and got rid of that shitty character whose name I forget). It wasn't that Scott and Lowe saved the show, but it was right around the same time that they figured out that they shouldn't play Leslie Knope as their own Michael Scott.

She'd been depicted up to that point as a well-meaning sad sack. When they shifted to her actually being ridiculously good at her job (which made her over-happy, saccharine nature meaningful like Ted Lasso's) and luckier in love (with a great chemistry pairing in Scott), the whole show changed for the better.

And that ensemble cast was a murderer's row of comedic talent. That show ranks right up there with the likes of Cheers and Taxi for best comedy ensembles ever. Every member of that cast stole the show at least a few times.

I loved Parks and Rec but could never get into the Office. There are parts of it I like a lot but the cringe is too central to the humor and I can't stand all the second-hand embarrassment.

Yeah, if you watch The Office like it's The Michael Scott Show, the cringe definitely gets overwhelming at times. That episode with Scott's Tots -- the kids he promised free college to -- might be the worst A-plot in sitcom history. Maximum cringe.

The rest of the cast had charm to spare though. The Jim/Dwight dynamic is what the show should have been centered around. Best part of that show for pure laughs.

And 30 Rock belongs in this mix of semi-farcical mockumentaries with deep SNL ties. Parks & Rec is still the best of the bunch for me, even with the weak first 2 seasons.

It also manages to be almost as infinitely quotable. I can't even put a number on how many times I couldn't put a finger on what I was quoting and had it turn out to be an excellent Parks and Rec moment.

You undercook fish? Believe it or not, jail. You over cook chicken? Also jail, under cook over cook.
