Got around to starting the History of the World Part 2 series, honestly enjoyed it more than expected between the cameos and the actual sketches.

Yeah we just started watching this as our slap stick comedy series (gave up on miracle workers) .. a lot funny then I expected and holy hell, they pulled every actor/celebrity known to mankind.

Some of the skits were awesome. But sometimes on edibles, commercials will have me laughing so hard i have trouble breathing .. so idk.

Locke - read it was a movie that has Tom Hardy and takes place entirely inside a car .. my lady loves action movies so we put it on expecting car chase scenes and explosions etc ... man were we wrong. I did learn a lot about commercial concrete though.

I'm really not crazy about how Disney is portraying the Mandalorians. The original Mandalorian,
Boba Fett, was a ruthless bounty hunter, cold blooded and cruel. And that's how I feel the
ENTIRE Mandalorian race should be. Cruel, ruthless, ambitious, constantly infighting with themselves
and constantly trying to subjugate others. We have enough goodie goodie types in the Star Wars universe
ie.the Jedi. And Star Wars has further emasculated evil bu limiting the Sith with "the Rule of Two".

So let the Mandos be jerks and unleash their jerk-iness on the universe. It makes for MUCH better storytelling.

Turns out Boba was just a dick!

I’d like the universe to be more edgy for sure, but I myself never assumed the Mandos were a race like you’re suggesting….more like religious zealots…

You want the Harkonnen like in Dune….or the Necromongers in Riddick.

You missed the boat on that one a while ago. Even before the Disney take-over, the official canon had already shifted Mandalore into something messy and convoluted, with a pacifist faction ruling over Mandalore during the Clone Wars (whos leader just happens to be Bo-Katan's sister and Obi Wan's crush). Deathwatch is closer to what you describe. But then it gets into a whole lot of ridiculousness as the plot progresses (Bo-Katan comes in and out of power, Darth Maul takes over Mandalore for a while, there are factions within factions within factions, a diaspora both during and after Imperial rule, ever changing cultural elements with each new writer, etc etc etc)

Yea, Mandalorian politics are laughably complicated.

I was all excited for live action Bo-Katan (Starbuck from BSG!), since they’d actually be using an actor with a face.

But, now she’s also down with this stupid, never before used “can’t take off your helmet” creed - which they created just so Pedro Pascal only has to go to Manhattan Beach for 1 week/year to record the dialogue.

Anyways, I’m enjoying the third season fine. This may be the nerdiest thing I’ve ever posted, lol.

I don't think the SW universe in 2023 is going to go for any sort of "this entire race/clan is just evil" angle unless something is a literal monster. Hell they're even humanizing Imperials and have been for years.

I'm actually fine with the "life is more complicated than that and everyone thinks they're the good guy" vibe, which was implicit in the reprogramming storyline of Ep3 this season (I don't think that's a spoiler).

What I'm really waiting for now is
Baby yoda in full Mandalorian armor doing backflips and jetpacking around while flinging speeders at people

Coda - signed up for free week trial w Apple TV to watch this and Ted Lasso. Good movie, well written, mostly well acted, surprised it won Best Pic. Def recommend it.

Ted Lasso - went in w high expectations, pretty good. Im trying to categorize his characters humor style bc every line, every "joke" follows the same formula .... I say "optimistic sarcasm".

Boba Fett wasn't a Mandalorian though, he inherited his fathers armor, he never took the creed, never walked the sway, etc. The entire idea of a Mandalorian didn't really exist in the original trilogy. In the Boba Fett series, Boba himself even admits he isn't a Mandalorian.

A buddy of mine and I had a discussion about Bo Katan's arc to seemingly join the Mando covert, the episode was even called The Convert. He says he wishes she would convince the covert to give up their fanatical ways and be more flexible. I said I like that she's joining up, because apart from the stupid helmet rule, every other aspect of the Creed is noble and admirable. I like these Mando's better than the ones who pissed away Mandalore itself. There's also the fact that Bo saw a Mythosaur and that means much of the legend the creed is based on, is actually true.

Man Mando S3 really appears to be tanking. IGN gives EP 6 another mediocre review. Hoping the finale can save this thing.

Anyone seen "Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham" yet? My Blu Ray gets here tomorrow. Reviews are pretty positive, they say its Batman in kind of HP Lovecraft kind of setting, an alternate universe take on batman not unlike "Batman: Gotham by Gaslight".

Only two episodes left, and no Gideon or Thrawn sighting at all... I know JF and DF wrote Season 4 already and its story is baked into S3, and JF has stated he plans to do Mando for as long as the fans enjoy it, so there's some sense that they are playing a very long game here. But still, there really has been barely any hint of any antagonist so far, just tiny hints of the Empire reemerging, not much runway left to make it real.

Oof, EP6 was really, really bad. Ridiculous stunt casting with Lizzo, Jack Black, and Christopher Loyd (Great Scott! What is Favreau doing?!). It feels like no one, except maybe the FX guys, is even trying, lol.

This season looks especially weak coming on the heels of the tremendous Andor, which showed that you can actually craft Star Wars for grownups.

I hope Ashoka is better, assuming they finally get around to releasing it in my lifetime.

Pretty much a fifth season of Rebels, only live action. Wonder if Zeb or Kallus will pop up. Also, is that female character a new version of Mara Jade?

Its just great to see Star Wars introducing force wielders other than the Jedi and the Sith, at last
(ie. the Dark Jedi). It will be interesting to see how the Dark Jedi are defined -- obviously former Jedi who became corrupt or disillusioned with the Jedi Oirder and began experimenting with the dark side. There relationship with the Jedi is clear -- traitors to the Order, and therefore sworn enemies -- but what is their relationship to the Sith? Rivals? Possible allies? A lot of interesting possibilities.

Agreed. I liked the first few episodes but then realized this season each episode was going to be like a a stand alone story .. theres no long term story arc, theres no long term villain .. this last episode was bad.

Hollywood nepotism strikes again .. maybe Bryce Dallas Howard shouldnt be directing things just bc of who her dad is.

-----------

Big Lebowski and LOTR Return of King are coming back to theaters.

Got my 1 ticket for Lebowski on 4/20 (thurs) .. figured the pregnant wife would be okay with not going. Its going to be lit, as the children say.
