I believe the question he responded to was regarding team toughness, I can't see Fast or Kristo improving that area of the team. To me this was the coach saying look "I'm doing the best with what I have right now till I get some better players."

The thing is, it's not the best. Stop forcing offense down a teams throat that is just not capable of outscoring the other team.

Everyone complained that Torts came here saying safe is death and never followed through. Well guess what, he didn't have the personnel to do that with. But he got the most out of what his guys had, every single night. And if someone didn't give him the most game in game out, they were shipped off faster then you could say Tortorella.

AV isn't doing that. I don't see him ever show any emotion on the bench. All i hear is complaints in the media and how he's "working hard." Where are the timeouts? Why wasn't there one called tonight when they were flat and then gave up 2 goals in 26 seconds. He just stands there and says the players can talk all they want but its the on the ice that counts.

He's not hired to let the players do the talking. He's hired to tell the players how to play. To motivate them. I don't see ANY of that. I see a guy who is to nice.

I hope i'm wrong, I hope he can win a cup here or at least get us far. He has the track record. But he seems to have lost this team 30 games into the season. I see no accountability whatsoever (Cally getting first line minutes in the third). I see no reasoning for the benching of Del Zotto last game after a handful of above average games prior to that.

I'm hoping we begin to see some moves for some charachter guys. Get some tough SOB's in here. Call up McIlrath. Hell bring up beach. He can't be worse then Pyatt.

NEW YORK – The large metal door that separates the Rangers locker room from the rest of Madison Square Garden was closed.

Five minutes. Ten minutes. Fourteen minutes.

Reporters checked their cell phones, talked to each other, and posted on Twitter the length of the delay, which on a normal night is about five minutes.

Finally, after the Rangers (15-15-1) were finished self-evaluating their 4-1 loss to the Capitals on Sunday night, the stainless-steel door opened.

And when the door did open, there were some frustrated players behind it:

If it's any consolation Grubauer was only in the ECHL for the first half of last season because of Holtby being in the AHL due to the lockout. He is a legit prospect and the Caps wanted him to get full starting time hence why he was in the ECHL. He played the last half of the season in Hershey + the playoffs. He's also played in the NHL before tonight.

Grubauer's a good goaltender. There's only 60 in the league, they grow on trees. Which is why you don't give one 60 million over 7 years.

The game has passed Sather by. It takes big, fast athletes to win in today's hockey. Kreider and McDonagh are steps in the right direction. Other than that this team is a bunch of players who are either big or fast. Or neither: namely our top 2 centers.

OTOH we keep gambling on these type of players, and they always end up being the worst players on the team...

You can carry them, but you can't expect them to get the puck up ice for you. YOu gotta be able to serve it to them too.

Just watched the condensed version of the game that shows every single chance for both teams and Hank really had a great game He got beat by two screened shots and a penalty shot but other than that he made some AMAZING saves on breakaways, partial breaks, prime scoring chances from the slot (made sick GLOVE saves on Ovi and Alzner). So yeah... I didn't go through this thread yet but I'm sure there will be at least some dudes *****ing about Hank's performance and his contract.

To those people: You know nothing about hockey.

Yeah, he made some saves that were flat out mind boggling. His teammates basically hung him out to dry. Sucks for the few guys that showed up to play. The worst feeling is when you're trying your ass off and you know nothing you can do might matter because you feel like you're on an island alone against 5 opposing players. Most of the team's effort was inexcusable tonight.

Doesn't matter who's in goal, when the guys in front decides to play like worthless pieces of donkey ****.

GGWTFROFLOL, boys.

AV seemed very unhappy with the team in the post game. I would be too. Bottom line is, it's just not good enough. Game after game.

I thought Maloney and Carter both made excellent points in the post game. Anson Carter said something like we still have not seen the best the Rangers can offer because we've never seen all the players working at their best in any one single game, two or three a night max. Maloney then said yeah and honestly 30 games in the guys have adjusted to the coach and they had a coach who basically would not allow the players the option to take the easy way out. Now they don't have that coach anymore and too many guys are taking the easy way out. That's two former NHL players essentially saying that effort and heart are the two big problems. There is nothing more useless in hockey than an uninspired, unskilled player who has no heart. How many guys currently on the Rangers roster are you thinking about right now who fit that description exactly?!?!?

Honestly, to me, this is the least inspiring Rangers team I can rememeber since the mid 2000's. There are just almost no guys( maybe Dorsett) who come to play each and every game. Zero team toughness, it is almost like they go through the motions when it comes to sticking up for each other( except for Dorsett). To me, the comments after last nights game were the most revealing I've heard all season. The team has been exposed completely now as a weak, uninspired, careless team with very few exceptions. To me that equals miles away from good!

Agreed.

And I think its a little disturbing that its the core-core guys that seem to have the hardest time to adopt. Callahan. Girardi. And so on.

The door was probably closed for so long because one of the staff locked it by accident and they were trying to figure out how to open it.

Please don't give this team as much credit as something like a "meeting". You expect this moron squad to have a meeting?

The Good: I was too tired from the Devils game and running through Bratislava all day, so I wasn't able to watch the game.

The Bad: I decided to watch it this morning. Boy, we had no chance. I'd make an excuse if WSH didn't play the night before. This way I just won't. Not acceptable. Brassard stunk.

I thought DZ wasn't as bad as the rest of the team. Lundqvist was okay.

Poo has played terrible half this season and is supposed to be sent to Connecticut. However, AV gives him chances and chances and chances when he doesn't deserve it, and after a terrible game where he gave away the puck and went offside more than he made even adequate plays, he manages to get his stick lifted into the puck which by some twisted turn of irony goes into the net.

And now it will be even harder getting rid of him.

Even after sleeping on this game, it still feels like one of the worst they have played in a long time. Intensely disappointing.

i know right! how i long for the days of grinding out 1g games and watching our defense set up as targets for the opposition to take shots at.

that was a system i tell you.

I like winning. When the Devils won with their boring system I am sure their fans loved it.

My point was and always has been that the troubles this team has scoring has zero to do with coaching.

By the way, the Caps blocked lots of shots yesterday. Turned out to be a decent strategy.

I suppose you have enjoyed what you have been watching this year.

Anyone who believes that the gane has passed Sather by does not understand that he was never a good GM. He had ine great draft year in Edmonton. One other was decent. That is it.

But... But... But... Closed door meeting... And words like "intensity" and "effort" and "level" and above all else "unacceptable"

This I say! This!!!

Come to play every other game seems to be the AV philosophy, getting tired of him too

Exactly. I don't care how many goals we score in a game so much as that we score one more than the other side at least on most nights. That's all you need.

This team hardly has a pulse half the time. They might like each other but they don't stick up for each other and the Rangers are going to have to bring in somebody that is going to get them a bit of respect. Tom Sestito said all that need to be said on that a couple weeks ago. I concur as well with Carter and Maloney--many if not most of out guys are looking for the easiest way out.

Anyway I turned the game off after the second period. The result was inevitably clear to me at that point and there was no good reason for me to get anymore frustrated watching it to the bitter end.
