Value of: Cap dumps to Detroit

Not interested in aging players with long term/high salary deals. Yzerman pretty much ruled that out already in his end of season press conference
OK.... So only cap dumps that are old and cheap and/or on 1 year deals then?

The premise of the thread was cap dumps to Detroit. If the actual GM isn't interested than whatever, but someone thought Detroit should use some of their capspace next season to bring in players and add assets. The Yzerplan may not align wit that.

I thoroughly hate the idea, but I could see Fletcher proposing it, so let's put it out into the ether for discussion's sake:

James van Riemsdyk (1 yr., $7,000,000)
#5 OA

#8 OA

This is something that Detroit should 100% be looking into. There’s no way we will be able to hit the cap ceiling this year and JVR would fit in there and we move up 3 spots to hopefully snag a top defenseman or center.

If there is a guy who falls to 5 they like, I can totally see Detroit doing this.

I would do this in a heartbeat.

For a second I figured there’s no way they’d pay $4M to move up 3 picks. JVR is absolutely not worth his cap hit, but Detroit essentially pays only the $4M for a guy that is still an upgrade on what we have at center.

Don’t see Philly’s need to dump his cap that bad, though. They don’t have anybody they really need to re-sign.

The assumption is that Fletcher is working under a mandate to retool quickly and put butts in seats, and that they're going to go all-in on signing Johnny Gaudreau. There's also the thought that the retool might go so far as to involve Provorov going out, and that might mean adding assets to Provy to bring in someone who makes more than he does.

I wouldn't think JVR's your solution at C, though; he's pretty exclusively a LW. I don't know if he got any use at C in Toronto, but I don't remember us ever doing that, even when we were extremely hard up this past year with Couts and Hayes out for most of the year.

They don't have to be old, but yeah short term dumps to add a future asset or two would be palatable.

He’s definitely not a solution, but he’s still better than anything we have behind Larkin. I think that can justify the $4M. EDIT: I guess I thought he was still playing as a center.

And man, the Flyers just need to accept a full rebuild. They’re not winning a Cup with this group but they’re trying to be good enough that they’re not bad enough to properly build.

I count two that have a shot at being worth shit.
You would be guessing and you would be wrong. Leafs have their star players, just need the young guys to step in and fill roles on the 3rd and 4th lines. Your arrogance as well as your ignorance is amusing though.

Toronto has Robertson, Steeves, holmberg, kral, knies later in the year and niemela. Thats 6 that could all make the jump. They are all solid players who could play for the leafs next year.
Your beyond delusional if you think all those guys can make the roster next season

Cool. Let me know how well they work out for you.

They probably will. Gotta stack up those ELC’s when your GM blows half his cap on four players.

OEL is our #2D. We shouldn't be treating him like a cap dump, and we're certainly not giving up valuable young pieces to do so. "Rumor" is management is seeing if there is a market for him, not seeing if we can pay teams to take him.

Poolman and Dickinson should be the one's getting dumped. Depth guys that are still NHL calibre, but overpaid. Maybe something could be worked out with 1 or both of those 2...

I’m a big fan of these cap dump trades. If we can get and OEL or JVR while also acquiring assets we should do it in a heartbeat.
