Confirmed with Link: Canucks Sign Tom Willander to ELC

Good, he's an important long-term asset to the franchise. As long as Hughes stays, they might not need to make another major blueline acquisition for 5+ years, assuming D Petey and Willander aren't dealt.

That's incredible stability, and is similar to the backbone of the run the Hurricanes have gone on, presuming the young guys stay on their current trajectory.

The top 6 forwards is in a bit of dissaray, but it's nice having at least one part of the roster look elite.

Conor Geekie got 525-775-1.0 as the 2022 11th overall pick and Sam Dickinson got 550-800-1.0 as the 2024 11th overall.

Willander gets close to the same, but a bit less in year one and a bit more in year 2.
Well JR said we gave a similar offer to what prev 11OA got so the diff is really 100k in the 2nd year.. seems like a lot of drama from the agent for very little

Are you saying that the Willander camp delayed signing because they wanted $100k more than Geekie?

Or, is it more likely that the offer from the Canucks was not in fact as good as the Geekie offer, and they had to increase it (per Robinson) to get the deal done?

How many crates of Crown Royal does Diamond owe you Dhali?
When the two parties were negotiating the terms of their arrangement, it went a lot like it did between Kramer and Java World.

Diamond: "We're prepared to offer you a lilac coloured golf shirt, all the crown royal you can drink, AND......"

Dhaliwal lunging forward awkwardly : "I'll take it!"

I suspect the team views Willander in the same vein as D-Petey, that he's already an NHLer going forward.
AND, most important to me, that he is not trade fodder, so they don't need to showcase him in AHL playoffs.

And then tomorrow, of course, they'll announce that he's on his way to ABBY for the playoffs.

Finally some positive news.
Actually, the remake of this Canuck blueline is some really positive news.

At the beginning of last season, it was basically a train-wreck, when Soucy fell off a cliff; Desharnais couldn't play; Juulsen reverted to being the AHL d-man he always was; and Brannstrom was brought in, but couldn't play either. Then down went Hronek. Yikes!

But in one season they've done a complete rebuild--and now have one of the most dynamic bluelines in the entire Western Conference. EP25, Mancini and now Wilander all 23 and under; and Hughes-Hronek in the prime of their careers. Even Myers coming off a couple of strong seasons.

So if they bring back a veteran guy like Forbort for depth, they're basically set for years.

Yes. We already know through Dahliwal that they were really only 200K apart a couple weeks ago and we also heard JR saying that we gave them a similar offer to prior 11 OA picks. So if you do the math, yeah it's really like 100K difference.

Good news. Can one of the veteran talent scouts on here make the case that this kid has a legitimate shot at playing in the NHL next season? Or is that just fanboy wishcasting?

Finally some good news as a Canucks fan. Hopefully Willander turns into another Slavin clone. Glad that this fiasco is finally over.

Will be rooting for the Canucks top prospect.

I think JR already hinted that he would be in the NHL full time next season unless Willander fumbles it

Yes because we already know through Dahliwal that they were really only 200K apart a couple weeks ago and JR saying that we gave them a similar offer to prior 11 OA picks and do the math, yeah it's really like 100K difference.

What was the delay leading up to the Dhaliwal report of being $200k apart?
