We had to sign a FA top 6 forward.Anyone thinking we could go into the season without another veteran scoring winger is dreaming. I for one could never support a planned tank from the start of the season, which is what that would amount to.

You have to enter each season with a plan to complete. If the plan falls apart then you adjust. Sometimes that means selling and accumulating picks. But you don't plan to tank from the start of the season.

Crossing my fingers there isn't a NMC attached to the deal. That's a big factor... as Eriksson could be a valuable trading chip in a year or two once the Sedins retire if he has a few big years with the twins.

I do think the Sedin bonus is something that shouldn't be ignored, there's enough evidence that they should be very productive together based on multiple international tournaments. If Vrbata could pot 30 with them despite never having played together before I'm very optimistic about what Eriksson can do.

You shouldn't give Eriksson the benefit of that though, given they'll have a similar effect on everyone they play with.

I don't think there is any evidence there will be an incremental benefit to the Sedins from playing with Eriksson. If anything, history has shown the Sedins add more value bringing up the scoring of lesser players.

How many points do you think he'll average during the last three years of his contract?

Really?

Were you happy with the way Bieksa, Higgins, Burrows, Hamhuis, good Canucks all, have aged?

I'm not arguing this is a bad contract for 2016-17. It isn't. I'd be happy to see Eriksson get $6 mill from the Canucks in 2016-17.

I hope it works out and Eriksson ages way better than most do. OTOH, I consider the contract ridiculously short-sighted and a huge risk.

But then, Free Agent Frenzy is the time for desperate GMs and their fans to ignore the distant (as in more than a season or two away) future and overpay ridiculously.
Name a team not bidding on FAs?

Never mind the price or the term.....this goes against what the Canucks are trying to do.

Now we just helped get a worse pick next year, and still won't make the playoffs.

Everyone who likes this deal is extremely short sighted. Can you explain to be how this deal gets us closer to winning a cup? When the drafts rolls around next season and we're drafting in that 13-17 range just remmeber it's move like this that are the reason why. Just a stupid pointless signing.

I can't believe Eriksson was happy to sign with one of the worst hockey teams in the NHL. He's here for the money, and because Jim ****in Benning was the only one stupid enough to give him SIX ****ing years!

I love this:) I can't wait to see how well he meshes with the Sedins again:)

I guess I actually have a reason to pay attention to the farcical World Cup tournament since apparently Sedins and eriksson will be playing on the same line during it

If it were 2011 we'd be trolling the bargain bin looking for the next moneypuck signing.

This is another top 6 forward Benning has brought in. Good on him.

lol. Who would you sign with the $2 million in cap space that we had?

BTW, you can thank MG for even having $2 million in cap space with such a great team.

If we gave money to players like Dorsett, Sbisa, or Sutter like Benning does, we wouldn't have even made the Finals.

But you wouldn't even understand that, seeing as you think "asset management" is a pointless buzzword.

Take a couple business courses at community college and get back to me.

The best move is not to sign any of the big FA. I think most ppl reealize this.

But we are not the one answering to Aquilini.

You can ***** all you want but ownership wont allow a full rebuild.

With that, the Eriksson deal is one of the better deal/target.

To be fair I don't think the management actually thought different to ownership. Oh they may do so now that they failed to meet the mandate they agreed to but that certainly wasn't the case when they took the job. And as owner why would I change my mandate so soon? it may be the wrong mandate but I can very much see why ownership is doing what they are doing right now.

Exactly. Even if we make the payoff who cares. It'll be like the Calgary series all over again.

That's nice.

I'm glad you're happy we signed a 31 year old for 6 ****ing years. This will be entirely on Jim Benning when the new GM has to buy him out. But hey, I want this team to be successful and clearly some people here don't care. They just want the Sedins to have good linemate!

Yes, taking business classes will make my opinion on hockey more valid

say that out loud and see how arrogant you sound.

You're not really good at accepting the fact heh...
It is what it is, we all know we're going after a big FA

Yes, no one but the great Y2k want that....

This isn't the end of the world as you will make it out to be.

Bleh. I don't want to, but in Sept I'll probably say "Hey, it's hockey! And it's September!"
