Confirmed with Link: Canucks Sign Pius Suter - 2-years @ $1.6M AAV

I’m gonna tag this and give you a gotcha moment should Canucks roster remain exactly the same come first game back
Actually I just got a text from my bookie's girlfriend's personal trainer's brother's wedding officiant that he's not getting traded, so you can scratch that.

Also this news was great from a starving fan standpoint. I miss coming here and complaining about Myers every night

Tried my best to find a Chaos Giraffe pic but this is the best I can come up with:

We should overanalyze the hell out of this signing and all it's possible implications for the next week or so, before getting back to discussing whether or not Eichel is any good and if Edler was the worst Canucks' defenceman.

P.S. I like this move.

Depends on how they want to do it. You can request off-season LTIR and the Canucks would be granted it for Poolman. The reason to get as close to 0 cap space on the day of opening night rosters, as the Canucks did last year, is it sets the baseline for the rest of the season. With the Canucks at 0$ last season, every bit of money they put on LTIR counted.

Not sure how off-season LTIR works, but I thought you basically needed to be effectively cap compliant to start the year.

I doubt they waive a healthy Pearson given what they’ve put him through. I suppose some sort of off-season mechanism would work assuming Poolman provides that flexibility and you start with a 22-man roster.

But then assuming Pearson’s healthy you still need to do something else material with salary right away.

Off-Season LTIR according to CapFriendly.

Yes, LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.

At the start of the season the teams LTIR relief & ACSL is recalculated when the 10% cushion is removed.

I do think at least one trade will be made before the season starts so they can avoid a lot of this.

I'll be shocked if there isn't some sort of trade before October 1, whether it's Myers or Garland or something else.

I like Blueger more than Suter honestly.

I think Suter is a pretty meh player, he's not bad, but not that good either. Good on the PK which is nice though.
PK, hopefully, will be the most improved area for the Canucks this year. I mean, it almost HAS to be, given how legendarily bad it was last year. And that could make a pretty big difference in the standings as well, one would think.

Soucy, Cole, Suter, Blueger, and no OEL/Myers should put us at least 31st best in the league.
