They'd be lucky to get him for $3Mx3. I'd do that in a heartbeat.

If another team decides they think he can be their starter then $4M-$5M with term would not be shocking.

The only thing benefitting the team right now in negotiations is that he lost big last summer by holding out for a better deal. He might be a little nervous that that might happen again. If he likes Vancouver he may decide to sign sooner rather than later.

He rightly chose us to audition himself to the league and has been great. Theres no chance we will be able to keep him.

I think the only way Lankinen re-signs is if the Canucks end up trading Demko.

Would you guys roll the dice and try to get a good return for Demko and try to re-up Lankinen?

Demko is obviously better when healthy, but his long term health is a concern.

I think Lankinen will take the money if offered. The issue is that I can’t see the Canucks won’t offering him term and $3-4M AAV to be a backup.

Personally, I roll the dice on Demko being healthy and elite. His health issues might actually make it possible to extend him to a lower AAV. Given the recent goalie contracts that have been given out, Demko was pretty much guaranteed a long term contract at $8M+ AAV. That still might be the case but it will be on the lower end.

I can’t imagine Demko would net a huge return, just because few goalies do and he will always have health concerns.

Lanky has easily been our MVP this year and I would move heaven and earth to keep him here after this deal is done. The idea of signing Demko to any sort of long term deal gives me the horrors and if it means losing Lankinen I would move on from Demko; he isn't ever going to be better than he was before and he could suddenly be unable to play at all. Find him a comfortable retirement home in Cali...

With Demko's injury history, he wouldn't fetch a worthwhile return. A late 1st is probably the best we could hope for, and that's not very appealing to a win now team. I also worry Lankinen wouldn't be this good as a full time starter given he's never been one before now.

He`s been hands down the best UFA-signing this season. He is the 2nd best performer on Canucks after Hughes. And this at .875M. I`d actually try to resign him now for 2x 2-3M.

This year was all about finding a place to showcase him self as a no.1 option, even if he had to do it for pennies.

So I would imagine step 2 of the plan is to cash in next summer.

With Demko on the books or $5m for remainder of this season and next, the Canucks might be able to afford to bring Lankinen back.

Rutherford hinted as much on a recent 'After Hours' segment on HNIC. When you look at what the Rangers, Lightning and Panthers are playing t heir starting goaltending (in the $10m-11m range), the Canucks could afford to bring Lankenin back at even $3-$4m a season.

He's certainly be a nice insurance policy if Demko were to ever go down with an injury again.

If Mackenzie Blackwood can get nearly 30m from Colorado after a good 4 games, I kind of feel Lankinen's gonna be priced out.

I don’t see this as realistic. Lankinen will probably get $4M+ on term and could well ask for some form of movement clause. Given all the cap issues they’ve had, I can’t see them risking that much cap
space on a backup (a position where they’ve usually gone cheap) unless they lose confidence in Demko’s health over the remainder of the season.

What's a number for Lankinen now? $4 mil x 4 years? $3.5 mil x 5 years?
I think with the cap going up anything in that range is a total win. Especially since our total goalie investment is low with Demko's contract.

I am still in favour of keeping Demko even if he doesnt show consistency in health before the year ends for two reasons. We have had guys come in and play great then fall off in their second season and Lankinen has NOT shown hes on Demko's level yet (which is not a knock on him, Demko is a legitimate top tier goalie in the league). But I really like Lankinen's game and feel way more confident on him building on this year than I did with Martin, but I didnt see Silovs falling off the way he did. I would trade Demko during next season if Lankinen keeps this up (and we can keep him) unless we get an amazing deal for him. The guy still has it and his injury is one I am still optimistic he can figure out eventually.

I'd like to make this a tandem if possible, but perhaps Lankinen will have offers he cant refuse that we cant reasonably match with Quinn Hughes needing to be signed during next year. Maybe I'm a hater but I'm not sold on Lankinen as the long term solution over Demko... yet.
