What coach isn't that way?Tocchet is simply a "my way or the highway" type of coach and in the new NHL with 32 teams, soon to be more no doubt, there are other options. Even Tortorella works out issues with players, coaches them up.
Tocchet tried to make it work with Kuzmenko, the guy wasn't interested in doing what he was being asked to do. He was out on the ice with him trying to get him to understand what he needed to do to succeed.
Really if Kuz was scoring at a 40 goal pace and near a point a game, he probably wouldn't have been traded regardless of Toch not really liking his game much.
Tocchet seems to have a good grasp of the value of both playing structured disciplined hockey *and* letting the guys use their talents.
Tocchet has played with and coached some of the most skilled guys ever. He played a *tough* game in the 90s when that was brutal, and he piled up goals doing it. He's won as a player and as a coach.
