If he keeps up tenacious play and hits 50 pts he will be worth every Penny.

Okay contract. Really like the player, however a major concern considering the Canucks cap situation.

This is where signing someone like Pearson who is a replacement level 3rd line winger and due for regression hurts though.

Pretty damn good deal. Bennett got 4.4 today, I’d say this is significantly better value.

Fair deal.

I thought the Canucks might try for less term to keep the cap hit down this coming season.

This is exactly the cap hit that The Athletic predicted.

(with the Holtby buyout they should barely be able to sneak another D, a 4C, and a new backup under the cap).

Meh, I was in the 4 year $4.25-$4.5 range. I'm not a fan of Benning's continued "soft" negotiating, but I'm not going to quibble too much about buying an extra UFA year...its just concerning given Garland's size, playing style and durability.

Edit: glad to hear he doesn't have any trade protection...that definitely makes the higher cap hit more palatable.

Happy he is signed. Kind of funny two Arizona guys have longest contracts on the Canucks right now. Demko also has 5 years, OEL 6. Anyone else more than 3? Schmidt is 3. Then is is all short term 2 or less I think. Hope Quinn or Petterson change that.
