The average and term don't make sense. I would have been okay with one or the other, not both.

there is something to be said for quiet dmen who are neither particularly loved nor hated and are rarely noticed.

but 4 years is a headscratcher.

Sitting on this more, this is a bad deal. He's a bottom pairing guy. You can live with the 2.5 mill cap hit on a 2 year deal, max. This deal will be terrible after year 2 or potentially sooner.

Term is ok. He's only 28.

This guy played with Boeser and Stecher back at Dakota.

Think very very Poor mans Tanev.

Good size but not that physical.
Ok defensively, but I'm not sure he's even a 2nd pairing guy.

Should t have got a penny over 2 per

2.5 x 2 years, okay, maybe. 4 years at 2.5 is a gross overpayment for a #6-8th guy. Benn actually looked better than him for WPG against the Habs. Poolman is a turnover machine when the minutes get too high, will make the most random dumbest outlet passes.

So we’re paying 5.5 a year for Hamonic and Poolman - two bottom pairing defensive defensemen

I'm not seeing the end game on D here. As has been noted, Poolman and Hamonic are bottom pairing guys. Hamonic can play up a pairing in a pinch, occasionally passably. Nucks would have been better off waiting for a trade opp to shake loose later than to sink 2.5 x 4 into Poolman.

Not a huge fan of the player though he certainly has good moments but he doesn't seem to be a terribly consistent player. Which I guess is why he is a third pairing guy.

No needle movement with this move and likely get similar performance out of many different players so the 4 year term is a head scratcher. 2 x 2.5M per makes sense to me.

I don’t know a damn thing about the player. Need to get someone from the Peg to chime in.
As you wish. We played him because our d-corps were severely depleted last year. A bottom pairing defenseman on most teams. An injury replacement at best on teams with decent defensive depth. I think he's both overpaid and given too much term, but that's free agency for you. Everybody overpays at free agency time. I hope he does well with the Canucks. When he's at his best, he's solid if unspectacular. At his worst he looks kind of lost (but the Jets do have an unnecessarily complex defensive system).

I will.

His time with the Jets, he was best playing fewer minutes. They tried him up and down the lineup but he was fairly out of his element playing against top tier forwards. Better suited to bottom pair on the Jets.

The Jets D as a whole was a tire fire the last two years so he may flourish for you guys. Hope he does.
