He was a rock in the Nashville series.Cole was great in the 1st half of the season but completely fell apart by the playoffs. In the 2nd round he was completely unplayable.

Yeah that’s probably right. 1.5m at 1 year is a low risk flyer- he can either step up and give you legit 3rd pair value or disappoints. This, or they do a minor deal including Juulsen and push Forbort down. The target has to be an upgrade on Forbort, who is just a placeholder imo.
I think Desharnais signals the end of Juulsen here.
My guess is that they're eyeing Marcus Pettersson later in the year, just like the Oilers would be, or looking at what happens to Matthias Samuelsson in BUF.
Forbort was their worst signing of the day, but he's also the one with the least term.
Seems like a great guy and has twice already jumped in to defend a teammate with zero hesitation.
Unfortunately he doesn't appear to have any kind of NHL skillset other than being a good penalty killer. Not a guy you can have playing a regular shift 5-on-5.

Yeah I'm starting to wonder about the type of communication the coaching staff had with the front office here. Like, what was the thought process in signing this player if they were going to change up the systems? Forbort probably fits in fine with last year's playbook, but now... not so much.Tocchet wants to implement transition and rush offense but it doesn't look like something Forbort can effectively take part in. His weaknesses in moving the puck look even more glaring when he is asked to play this up tempo, quick up system in the defensive zone. This is a square peg trying to fit in a round hole.

I think that Forbort was defensive depth that they figured made sense to sign right away rather than acquire at the deadline. Decent chance there weren't any appealing defensive free agent or trade targets and decided to address that later.
Luckily he's only about 400k above the AHL bury line so it's not really that much of a financial onus.

He's basically a LH Juulsen. And having one of those guys as your 7D is fine but you can't have two.
Forbort is basically a pure 3rd pairing guy and a LH Juulsen.
