Rumor: Canucks: Should I stay or should I go? Pete stays and Miller goes!

Nikishin, 1st and ?
That's hilarious on Nikishin. He's probably a top 5 player not in the NHL. He's not getting traded for Miller. Maybe for EP (but he's not leaving Van) But for real, Canes won't be taking on Miller unless some $$$ is moved out. Isn't the word that Van wants a Center back?

KK or Drury, Morrow (Canes top RHD prospect) another mid level prospect and a 1st. Vancouver seemingly has asked for Laf / Schneider and it didn't get anywhere. Some Jersey fans are ready to give up Nemec. Not sure Canes will actually ante up for what JR/Allvin are asking.

CAR has 1.5M in cap space with Fast on perma-LTIR, so they would need to clear 6.5M to take on Miller. As (presumably) a 2C, he takes Drury(1.725M)'s spot in the lineup, and Kotkaniemi (4.82M) is the other obvious subtraction to make it all work on their side. They can't afford to deal any of their roster Dmen or goalies, so off the roster for cap purposes, that'd have to be it.

So, Drury + KK for cap, + Morrow and probably a 1st+ for Miller's value and taking on KK, which as I mentioned above, would leave VAN probably needing to package Drury and the 1st+ for another C. KK is an ok risk to take, they can buy him out for an $825k cap hit any time over the next 3 seasons.

CAR's lines after the deal (estimated):

Svech-Aho-Jarvis
Roslovic-Miller-Necas
Martinook-Staal-Blake
Carrier-Jost-Robinson

[same D and G]

VAN's lines after this deal (estimated, balanced scoring), and, say - Drury/Desharnais/1st+ to NSH for O'Reilly/Schenn (edit: forgot to add KK):

Debrusk-EP-Sherwood
Suter-O'Reilly-Boeser
Joshua-Blueger-Garland
Heinen-Kotkaniemi-Hog

Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Myers
Forbort-Schenn

Demko/Lankinen

It's an interesting idea, no doubt...

KK, Drury (to match the cap space), Morrow, '25 1st (considering the KK contract?), then VAN uses 1st + Drury to acquire a C/D?
Why would VAN do this when they could just make 1 trade and get a C included… why couldn’t CAR trade the 1st+Drury for a C then trade that C + to VAN

I'm really surprised how public this is and how long it's been going.
Canadian media ;).

Remember Phil kessel? He wasn’t ripped as badly. But he got it pretty bad.

Dion Phaneuf? He was decent but the media destroyed him. He would have been great if he was their 3rd or fourth best defender but instead he was their best defenceman.

Tried my best:

Timeline

Thursday
: After the Kings game it had everything to do with overall frustration and not the feud of two players. Canucks had made a real effort to get it done.

Had heard JT had asked for a trade, but that was denied to him. Everyone knows whats going on and trying to get resolved, but a specific trade request was denied.

Friday: looked like it was close and Miller was told it was close.

Saturday morning: Friedman was told to check in on it. Something happened. Doesn't know when it was(Friday night or Saturday morning), but after morning skate there was no inclination Miller wouldn't play.

Friedman waited all day and it didn't change. Has theories, but doesn't have enough proof.

What happened?

Doesn't think Miller vetoed it.

Anytime a team goes to a player or agent they think it's close. Several people told Friedman was close.

Doesn't think it was Zibanejad vetoing it. This was talked about awhile back between the teams and doesn't believe it interests the Canucks.

Doesn't think it's Schneider. Canucks have asked several times and can't get him.

Could always be wrong, but doesn't believe it's Lafreniere.

Can't say if talks with Rangers are completely dead, but as of when they recorded(Sunday night) there was nothing imimminent.

Segway to the tampering thing:

On Tuesday the Canucks sent out the warning to teams about tampering because they believed someone on their team was being talked to by a team. Doesn't know if it was Miller or someone else.

Back to Miller

Only some teams who reasonably were felt JT would go to were given permission. Rangers included amongst them.

Talks about the Devils and how it would require surgery. Thus not convinced there. The Rangers can do it without roster surgery.

Not convinced of Dallas, either. Thinks there's someone we're all missing.

Wonders about Carolina

I guess it could be done that way, rather than the way I said. For example:

To CAR: O'Reilly + Schenn
To NSH: Kotkaniemi, Drury, Morrow, '25 1st

Then:

To CAR: Miller
To VAN: O'Reilly, Kotkaniemi, Schenn, Morrow, small +

:dunno:

100%. The GMs that aren't cowards are all doing great.

This. I was hoping Zito’s aggressiveness with the Panthers would spark some passion in GMs to not just sit around, tank and pray, but the problem is that this futility is also now expected and also understood by the fans.

The fans accepting the bottoming out and still paying for tickets is even worse.

Chytil, Lindgren as a base of a trade makes some sense to me. Definitely flaws and risks, I know. Won't get into that because it's more widely known. But some of Chytil's potential trade appeal might be a little clearer if compared to Lafreniere. Chytil has less points, but has been better than Lafreniere all season, I'd say. Chytil is a center, he is one of the fastest players on the Rangers every night, and can make things happen with that pace and his shot. He is 25, his AAV is 4.44 through 26-27; Lafreniere is 23, his AAV is 7.45 through 27-28. The upside of a healthy* Chytil might be more than most realize. It is conceivable getting either player might make the Canucks winners of a Miller trade. Especially if Miller staying has become untenable already.

I'm pretty skeptical on his theory here. Ranges have been slumping all year yet sit 12th last in points %,are starting to heat up and only 3-4 points back of a wild card spot. Injecting Miller into the lineup probably pushes them into the playoffs, or just outside of it, at which point chances of winning the lottery are like 1-2% and it's perfectly normal for teams to ask for and get trade protection against that.

Though I guess it could be the condition that it's only a 1st if the Rangers make the playoffs, which would be kind of dumb on the Rangers part then.

This theory doesn't make much sense. Not only is the term completely dismal, it doesn't even allow us to make a subsequent trade for a center. And it's not like Lindgren has been good either. If the only reason it fell apart was an unprotected first, well, the deal was already shit to begin with. So who even cares?

Lindgren being an impending UFA can probably be flipped for something at the deadline, if only a middling pick.

The scary part is the disagreement over the pick might not even be a “protected/unprotected” issue. It could be worse and the Rangers wanted it based off of how far they get in the postseason(if they even make it).

If he’s traded THEN it’s only going to be to the NYR. He has full control and has made it clear.

Maybe the conditions had some trade protection in draft position and Vancouver didn't wan't that. Can't see NYR putting an ECF condition on a trade where they include just Lindgren and Chytil as the main pieces. I say that as somebody who really likes Chytil.
