Rumor: Canucks: Should I stay or should I go? Pete stays and Miller goes!

Yup and these rumors will die down with it.

I'm really not even close to being convinced the Canucks are actively looking to move anyone at this point.
I think it’s 50/50, willing to listen and negotiate a trade given they are trending downwards and know they need to shake things up.

Ultimately it’s going to be spun into the fallacy of a locker room issue which we haven’t had any proof of.

Demko started last night instead of Lankinen. So it shows he was unhappy that he wasn’t getting the games.

Good opportunity to sniff out available players

Im not convinced anything is pending except that the Canucks continue to look for another forward and a top4 D that fits long term

Have the moves the Rangers have made since Drury became GM really struck you as those of a team with a good plan or concern for the future or good cap management? They've been a reactionary mess basically his entire tenure with the brief exception of last season. They absolutely would commit 22M locked up in 3 centers who are 32.
First of all, if we're talking about the moves when he just got the job, I don't believe those were his moves. Dolan fired Gorton, "installed Drury" and took control of the team for that offseason. Or at the very least Drury had a mandate from Dolan to execute exactly the types of moves he did or he would be the next to get canned.

Since then, I'd also say that the Kane trade was another Dolan move. Made no sense for the team. Plenty of "insiders" have also said that was a Dolan move.

Evaluating the moves he's made when his hands weren't tied, I don't think there's as much reactionary as you say. The worst move was probably to lock up Zibanejad with a buyout proof contract, but he was nowhere near this downtrodden when he got that deal. It probably wasn't going to age well. It would've been hard to think he'd collapse this quickly. There's also been plenty of restraint (the two years we made the ECF he only nibbled around the edges at the TDL and didn't give up significant futures, he also didn't commit long term to Lindgren after his bad year, took the "wait and see strategy, which in hindsight looks very smart).

There's been plenty of measured decisions in there. I think if there was a reactionary move it's probably coming from Dolan, but the team is playing great right now, so there's no need for that. And Dolan is probably preoccupied with the Knicks right now because they're better than the Rangers for the first time in forever, so I doubt he's getting involved right now to trade for Miller.

What exactly do the Bruins have that would interest us? Talk about "as mid as you can get".

Lohrei would be a fantastic add. Poitras, as well, but doesn’t fit the requirement of a player that would help considerably right away. There would have to be another valuable roster piece involved.

Not the best fit, but if can you get a young defender like Lohrei, as well as a couple other good pieces “as mid as you can get” is hyperbole.

What I wrote is in pretty direct contradiction to what you wrote... so you saying "no shit?" in response is weird.

Either way, we should be able to agree that the Cap is likely to go up more than the 5% over the next couple of years.
There is no contradiction…

Yes the cap is going up because the revenue is way up and the cap is way behind in terms of enforcing that 50/50 split between players and owners.

This thing is gonna be stretched out like the Patrick Kane situation right up until deadline day isn't it? Rutherford has a history of doing things earlier than most but if there's way more moving pieces than people here predict I can see why it was put on hold for now.

I'd wager any frustration Demko has is all to do with his game not being where he wants and just the drama in general. It's more "if this keeps being a problem, I don't want to be apart of it" then "I want out" kinda vibe.

Why are the Canucks asking for Lafreniere & Schneider when they have no leverage?

None of us know who the Canucks are asking for.

Canucks have leverage as the best player who will be traded in a JT Miller trade will very likely be JT Miller. The team trading for him will view him as an asset as the Canucks will not be trading him to any team that values him as a cap dump, distressed asset, or whatever.

His value is probably lower than it was say, at the end of last season, but when you're trading a 100 point power-forward center you do not lack leverage.

He’s struggled so they’ve leaned on Lankinen. I wonder if he’s arguing that he needs more games to get the reps in. To be fair he did injure himself again recently.

Except we do have leverage. Supposedly, Dallas, Boston and New York all made offers. Who knows whether it's true New Jersey did as well. Regardless, there's your bidding war.

"But Miller has a NMC!"

Yes, and if he wants out, he'll waive it to any one of those teams. Otherwise, he can spend the next five years in couple's therapy with Pettersson. Point is, we're not moving him for New York's junk.

Tocchet mentioned they need to give him a string of starts. So I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.

We're not. We don't even need Schneider. Not that he wouldn't be a fantastic add but we have Hronek with Willander coming and Myers as the stop gap. It wouldn't make much sense from a roster building perspective unless they use him or Willander in another deal

What is with Lafreniere. .5 ppg career to date is pretty disappointing. like the player dont get me wrong but was expecting a break out some time ago

The LA game was pretty embarrassing for him. He likely knows he can do better and wants to do better. Can’t do that without playing

I like Lohrei but he's still developing and for a team that already has a D-man for their 1st and 2nd PP it lowers his values to the Canucks specifically from a team building prespective. Don't even know how available he would be from a Bruins perspective depending on how they view H. Lindholm going forward (injuries and age being a concern).

Poitras is likely a few years away from being a contributor in the top-6.

Anybody else like Zacha, Coyle, Carlo, Lysell do fall in the "mid" category.

I doubt Miller would come to CBJ, but imagine having Miller and Monahan as our top two centers for years to come—that would be massive! Every player who’s played with Miller has loved him. He’s hard on his teammates, but that’s the kind of veteran leadership we need. Our window for winning is in the next few years, especially before all these young studs need to get paid. Realistically, we won’t be able to afford everyone, so the time to push is now.

From Vancouver’s perspective, they get a solid center in return, someone still young, who can play in the middle six and is reliable defensively. They’ve been looking for help on defense, and Provorov would be a great fit for them. Adding a depth center like Kuraly for their bottom six strengthens their lineup further.

On top of that, we give them a late first-round pick (basically a second-rounder) and swap picks for their second. Overall, it feels like a win-win scenario.

Thoughts?

If it's Dolan driving all the moves than that just reinforces my point even further. The Rangers have been making rash (or if you want to look at it more kindly, bold) moves all summer up through now and have repeatedly put it out in the media that Miller is a player they really want to acquire. It's extremely easy to see them trading for him while keeping Trochek and Zibanejad.

Not sure how Vancouver fans feel, but it seems close to fair to me. Might want to throw in a d-man to make room from Vancouver and change the 2nd to a 3rd.

Don't be absurd.

Did you listen to Richardson’s interview? Miller isn’t a locker room cancer. The real issue is that Elias Pettersson can’t handle being told the truth,he’s too soft. Even Richardson agreed with what Miller was saying. Plus, the people interviewing Miller have said he’s a great locker room guy and that they liked him a lot.
