How about Edler, Tanev and Hansen for Logan Brown, Sens 1st and Phaneuf? Greatly improves Sens right now and Canucks in future. Canucks then either keep or flip Dion.

God no. Only way we trade Tanev is for a top 10 pick where theres a RHD availible or a U23 top 4 RHD that has a top 2 ceiling, let alone Edler in the same package.

That is terrible value for Vancouver.

Well Logan Brown was a top 11 pick last year and is showing that he probably could have gone higher. He also seems to have a lot of chemistry with Gabriel Vilardi who looks to be a top 3 pick somewhere we would definitely be picking if we made this deal. Now if we get the top pick I'd take Liljegren but if we fall to 2-3 Vilardi is someone I'd be excited about. Also know the wild card is Sens miss playoffs still and we have another lottery pick? Logan and Vilardi would look damn fine together to me.

Value wise pretty strongly favors the Senators however would screw us for the expansion draft. Also losing two cost controlled assets in Brown and the 1st for a budget team is pretty significant.

Mostly an aside and tangential point but Brown was nearly (11th) a top ten pick and the Senator pick in this draft will likely be top ten. Having said that, I think you specified a top RHD (words were jumbled), which Brown is not, and the pick may not be. I'm not backing the trade idea to make it clearer.

Canucks trade Bo Horvat, Derek Dorsett and Jayson Megna

Senators trade Mike Hoffman

Easy pass from Ottawa POV.

First, Megna and Dorsett are spare parts that Bingo would use but not Ottawa.

So it's basically Hoffman for Horvat

Do you trade a 30 goal/60 points player for a good young player that lacks elite offensive ability, something that Hoffman has (shot, skills, speed).

I'm actually surprised that some Sens fans would like this deal.

HF gets lost in hypeland once again...

Good value for Ottawa, but they need an offensive winger.

Which is what Hoffman is. Guy can score from anywhere with his lethal shot (something rare in the NHL) and people want to trade him, that's insane.

Bo has some legit offensive abilities that can definitely be "elite" soon. People take away from how silly he can makr defenseman look game-to-game because they automatically associate him with being a two-way defence first center. If he had half decent linemates and the opportunity to shine offensively he would.

Horvat looks like a 20 goal guy (he hasn't done it yet, but it's a reasonable projection) versus a guy who has had a 27 and 29 goal seasons, and is still on the upswing.

I know Horvat brings other things to the table....but goals in this league are so hard to come by....it would be very risky for Ottawa to make that trade.

Another T&R special where a fan of one team doesn't even consider the needs of the other team in the scenario.

Yeah but it's hard to translate skill and speed in tangible results. It's a matter of system, opportunity and most importantly team chemistry.

Anyway, I wish good luck but I don't see the rationale for this thread... Why would Vancouver trade for an older more proven guy as they need to rebuild NOW? Why would the Sens trade a big offensive threat for a younger guy that COULD become good as they want to compete for the playoffs NOW?

Makes absolutely no sense. Close this thread IMO

Horvat already is good depending on what your definition of "good" is. Right now he's stuck with a team that just sucks. Wouldn't trade Horvat for Hoffman right now even if the Canucks were legit contenders.

Hoffman would barely get 20 goals on the current Canucks team. Eriksson scored 30 last year and 22 the year before and has 1 goal and 5 points in 15 games this year. Their leading scorer is Henrik with 9 points. Horvat is only 2 points behind the leading scorer and he plays with scrubs. Horvat's value >> Hoffman's.
