He could try gig. Food delivery, huge orders give great tips. The more experience the better shot at large orders. You work alone.

I have a friend who quit his home x-ray tech job and does Doordash full time. I told him he was crazy. He makes good consistent money in the Tampa area.

You gotta put yourself into it to keep your ratings high and be disciplined enough to be your own boss.
But its possible.

Only downside is you have to buy your own medical since no benefits. Customers will be jerks at least once or twice a day and if the economy tanks you will be hit hardest and first.

Its an option.
I did Uber eats for the first time ever on Saturday, I downloaded the app, go registered during mid week.
Turned the app on Saturday. Gotta say, its pretty fun. I saw one pop up for like $19 for only 5 miles trip and about 15 minutes, so I took it.
Turned out being 18 grocery bags at Shaws but well worth the $19 (they included the $15 tip in there)
I cant wait to use this during snowstorms.

I get asked for goals every year and I have learned to keep them simple, attainable and categorize them into buckets so they don’t look so overwhelming.

One bucket is for a goal or two addressing what areas I feel need improvement. Another bucket is on what can I do that will help me grow in my role. A third bucket is for things I can do to benefit the team and employees and the fourth bucket is for longer term goals like taking a class or attending a specific training etc.

Sometimes my goals get put on hold or only partially reached due to other things that come up that take precedence but that is always take. Into account at the end of the year.

I am very lucky to have found my professional “home”. It has its warts but since going out on our own, leadership has committed to being more realistic and open minded.

I hate annual reviews. I’ve had some real doozies over the years by people who should have never been managers or are just agents of chaos.

I like to think I'm good at what I do. But I have no desire to be a leader of people. Leave me in my cave and let me do my thing. We'll all be happier
I am the same way. I have never wanted to manage people. I’ll manage a process no problem but people, no thanks.

Anything Uber sounds like a good deal until you have 100k miles on your car in 2 years.

I used to work near the Uber lot at logan. There were full sizes Tahoes idling with the heat on waiting to get called, with RI plates. No way there are making that back. Especially if the algorithm send them to Southern NH. Whole thing is a scam to get contractors to destroy their personal vehicle for Ubers gain. If the drivers deducted $0.67 per mile from their pay and put it in a car replacement account I doubt many would come out ahead unless they were driving a well used Prius.

if I were to do it fulltime, Id buy an Ebike and plant my ass in the center of a busy area. You could make a ton of cash doing it that way.
But as of now, Im only taking short trips. But I will look into doing it more during shitty weather.
I will only do the uber eats, you dont have to deal with any customers usually.

Good point with the Ebike.

What people pay for delivery is madness

I used to love game shows, they were on all morning when I was a kid. I didn't know Chuck was the original Wheel of Fortune host. Back then the Dating Game and Newlywed Game were so much fun too.

My favourites used to be Joker's Wild, Hollywood Squares, Name that Tune and Match Game. There were so many though, lots that I can't remember the names of. Then there was the original "talent" show - The Gong Show.

Once in a great while, for a few laughs, I'll watch an old episode of Match Game, with Gene Rayburn, Charles Nelson Reilly and that whole zany gang. "Dumb Dora was so dumb..."

I like to make a leftover crescent ring. Mashed, turkey, stuffing, cranberry, and a big bowl of gravy in the middle for dipping

We make something similar to this every now and again, with a $5 chicken and a big bag of frozen vegetables. Feeds us the five of us and then lunch for me the next day. So damn good

Not to mention the insurance. Personal auto insurance does not cover Uber/Lyft activity- doing that is considered taxi/livery for hire so a commercial auto policy is needed and yes it costs more $$$.

Best wishes Betsy. Always better to get it checked out asap.
Even as a guy I was quite concerned when I felt a lump. Went for a mammogram a few months ago. I was shocked at how many guys can be affected. Luckily for me just a fatty lump. Will monitor from here on in.

Good luck!

Thank you Wally.

Never a big fan of Uber/Lyft. When I was a younger I was taught to not let strangers into your car, or get into stranger's cars. Some real horror stories out there regarding these services.

I have used Uber several times & I've never had a bad experience. I know there have been crimes committed but IIRC both companies have really tightened their checks on prospective drivers.

I've used them a handful of times, sometimes you get a good driver, a few times you get a terrible driver, playing with their phone while driving, stinks of pot, etc. If I were a driver I wouldn't work Friday or Saturday nights to avoid dealing with the drunks myself

Canada Post is currently on strike - someone was seen going to mail letters in a box, so the person who told this story called over "Canada Post is on strike, you may want to wait before putting those in the mailbox". The person said "Oh, I know, it's okay, these are going to the United States".

This is a true story, happened today.

Seems like often people are put into leadership positions without actually having any leadership skills. I've seen it where I work, for sure. Frustrating.
So have I, although for the most part, I've been lucky in this regard.

Then again, I've never worked in an office or corporate setting, save as an intern at Hale and Dorr when at Northeastern.

However, I have heard plenty of horror stories from family members and friends.

I remain somewhat baffled as to why those unable to lead or manage others invariably wind up as managers. This, evidently, in service of making all involved miserable.

Can a corporate worker 🐝 or HR expert explain this phenomenon to the uninitiated?

Curious.

There's two types of executives in this world. The first type hires smart managers so they make the executive look smart. The second type hires stupid managers so they make the executive look smart. Unfortunately, the second type outnumber the first type 10 to 1.

I remember all those shows. Before I switched to satellite I had the Game Show Network and they ran all of them. I loved Hollywood Squares, the stars especially Paul Lynde were hilariously funny.

The Gong Show was must see tv on Saturday night after Sha Na Na.
Ah, the 70s. I remember both well.

Believe it or not they made a movie about creator and host Chuck Barris,

I remember "JP Morgan."

Elsewhere, Charlie Weaver, Rose Marie, Paul Lynde and Wally Cox to block.

People assume hard workers can automatically lead people. Some can. Many cannot.

CEO's and other executives promote their friends or people they like.

Nepotism.

Those are three I've all seen examples of in my career.

Found another casualty of my move today. One of my silver glitter reindeer lost its antlers and the top of its head. While they are pretty cheap at $5 at Target, it was still disappointing to see.

Of course I replaced it with 4 new ones. The only difference is that the one that broke had gold antlers and the replacements are all one color.

I am doing a display on my coffee table of santa's reindeer pulling a wood sleigh I found after last Christmas. I'm not sure if the sleigh will be full of presents or mini trees yet.
