Flip side is Pettersson - Myers are also holding their head above water in tough minutes, so Hughes - Hronek is a luxury you can live with for the time being. Can always mix and match those pairings if those two fall off.
I want Hronek to play with Pettersson as much as possible.
He'll bring him in nicely.
Likewise with Hughes and Big Willy Willander, if he makes it.

This run, with QH injured, we've seen Hronek level up.
He was good as a passanger with Quinn, but now we are getting our moneys worth with him being the more puck dominant player on his own pair.

Had my doubts about re-signing Hronek to that big extension. But now with the salary cap set to hit $95m, his contract is a bargain.
He's really opened my eyes since Hughes went down. He's a truly legit, top-two d-man who shoots from the right side--almost impossible to find via the trade route or even the draft.

Hronek reminds me of a young Ohlund, 2 way reliable on both ends.
Every once in a while I am reminded that Detroit handed us one of the best right handed defencemen in the league in the middle of his prime for no discernible reason, and it brings a smile to my face

So the trade with Detroit ends up being the Islanders first rounder (Axel Sandin-Pellika) at 18th overall in 2023 for Hronek.
Yes, you could say at this stage, that the Canucks won this trade. Hronek's contract, assuming he stays healthy, is an absolute 'bargain' for a right-shot defender who can reliably put up 40-50 points a season.
vancouver also gave up their own 2nd in the hronek trade so it was ultimately bo horvat and felix nilsson for hronek and raty
I think it was a good trade to re-allocate resources to the back-end. ASP might be the better long-term player, but the Canucks probably would have traded the pick regardless (and who knows who they would have drafted if they didnt). But with the cap going up I don’t think Bo’s contract is bad. I’d take him back to be 2C again now that Miller is gone. One of the radio guys was talking about Bennett potentially getting 10 this off-season if he leaves Florida, so 8.5 for Bo isn’t the worst.
