They gave up a potential unprotected 1st round pick and they traded Fernstrom who is at least a promising prospect. Their cupboards are bare after a couple of players.Except they aren't mortgaging the future thus far and have been pretty consistent and clear they aren't going to touch the top prospects.
Likely Boeser moves and the assets from that are used to make another deal.
Yeah, I'm not sure why people think we need to move somebody from our forward prospects. You are more up on the situation than the folks making the proposals. He just turned 22 last week and looks like he's starting to breakout. To trade him for a trio of lesser assets as suggested, would be completely ass backwards for Anaheim. No one considering the Ducks perspective could make sense of it.
You're probably right, he dors not. But we can hope he change in senility.Dors Lou make these kinds of “futures” deals?
They got back a prospect who is perhaps further along than Fernstrom and plays at a more coveted position. They gave up a potential unprotected 1st round pick and they traded Fernstrom who is at least a promising prospect. Their cupboards are bare after a couple of players.
And if they move Boeser, they will immediately move any picks they get more win now players.
MP is turning 29 soon. His prime years are behind him. He probably has a few more years before regressing. Have to commit a lot of money and term to keep him as well. That is a win now move during Hughes' contract window. They got back a prospect who is perhaps further along than Fernstrom and plays at a more coveted position.
Their cupboards were completely bare when they took over the team. They are far less bare now. Especially on the blueline.
In the last 3 calendar years they have added Hronek and MP to compliment the best in the world for the top 4. They have added EP2 and Willander who will likely be full time NHL players next season. They have a D-man who is still junior eligible 5th in AHL rookie D-man scoring (kudryatsev). They have another promising D-man in Mynio. That is 6 D-men that are either legitimate NHL defenders or very promising youth. When they came in Poolman, Hamonic, Hunt and Burroughs were getting time with the team. They were barely NHL players. In the system the best players were Juulsen, Brisebois and Woo. Again guys that really don't have a NHL future (despite the love affair Tocchet has with Juulsen). Dermott was a clear miss on Alvin's part.
Up front it was no better. Podkolzin was about the only player worth mentioning and he's still really a bottom of the lineup player. Di Guiseppe was the best farm player (late 20s at the time). They have players with some promise and/or can come up and make a contribution.
Is the system depth deep? Not at all. But it was non-existent when Benning was finally let go. Every aspect of the organization needed to be rebuilt. And I mean every aspect. Main club, farm system and the entire front office/scouting as it was skeletonized under Benning/Aquilini.
"Win now" is typically guys on the downside of their career who will only be around short term. That is not the MO of this management group in their trade deals. They look for under 30 players that have a lot of runway left in their career. MP fits into that. As did Hronek. When they sign MP long term (and it is when IMO) they will have themselves another long term top 4 D-man they acquired. It's not a cheap as it cost of a couple first round picks but it's also not any sort of overpayment and it addresses now AND future needs. They are significant assets.
We'll agree to disagree. I don't believe MPs best years are behind him because I think he is a rare player that has continued to get better. He has another 5 years of solid play for sure. IMO. that is beyond a "win now" move.MP is turning 29 soon. His prime years are behind him. He probably has a few more years before regressing. Have to commit a lot of money and term to keep him as well. That is a win now move during Hughes' contract window.
They paid a heavy price to get Hronek who imo is a #4, not a #2 like some people on here label him. He struggles in his own end with coverage and poor giveaways. He was more of an age gap/retool move as opposed to a win now.
I understand we have some ready to play prospects such as Lekk (not sold on his long term upside), Willander, Dpetey, possibly Mancini. But there isnt anybody else after them that is likely to make a serious impact, is there?
Their offense is going to take a long term hit losing Miller, possibly Boeser, and not having a lot of offense in the system to replace it.
If the rumours are true about them wanting to add another 26yo top 6 forward, then that likely means one more top prospect + 1st is being moved out.
Willander and a 1st and it's a deal.Canucks should target Owen Tippett imo.
Agree to disagree on Hronek. Im super low on him. We'll agree to disagree. I don't believe MPs best years are behind him because I think he is a rare player that has continued to get better. He has another 5 years of solid play for sure. IMO. that is beyond a "win now" move.
Hronek...don't care if he's a #2 or a #3 or a #4. He's a top 4 RD. That is a good asset. And not an overpayment. He is a good D-man. To think otherwise is crazy.
No there isn't much more beyond impact. But that wasn't the point. When they took over 3 years ago there was NO ONE of impact. They have moved around assets and in doing so they have generated some depth. And will continue to do so and it's also the reason they've been pretty vocal that they aren't touching the most promising youth they do have. I could be wrong but I don't believe EP2, Willander, KK or Lekk will be touched.
Will offense suffer? Not a guarantee at all that it will. A big issue with the offense has very little to do with the forwards and everything to do with the back end. That back end gets a very good puck mover in MP. It looks like EP2 and Willander can also contribute with that moving forward. Not having 3 or 4 puck moving black holes in the lineup every day on the back end can offset the issue up front.
Note Freidman is reporting the canucks and MP are closing in on a long term deal.
The forwards that the Ducks would trade to Vancouver (or anybody right now) are probably Fabbri and StromeYeah, I'm not sure why people think we need to move somebody from our forward prospects.
We wouldn't get anyone we'd want with Zegras, Carlsson is as untouchable an asset as it gets for us, Gauthier just got here, and McTavish is pegged as the 2C behind Carlsson. None of them want out or need a change in scenery, so...yeah, I don't think there'd be anything Vancouver could give up that we would want.
What's the background on this? I do recall a few years back there were reports Canucks really loved Tuch.So what would Vancouver give up for Alex Tuch? There's been a lot of chatter that his wife wants him to go to Vancouver because that's where she's from. Thoughts? Ideas? He's got a very solid contract for a 2nd line player with size and mobility, good PKer too.
