Maybe they could get a Brady Tkachuk.

Whether they were forced to or not, this is a step back for a team that needs to be stepping forward. The real problem is mis-management from the previous regime capped this team's ceiling and Brady likely realized that.

You're talking like being "guaranteed" one of those players is an obvious slam dunk. It's not. Smiths is a projectable #4 "toolsy" type. Rudolph and Cullen have big projection question marks (Cullen is particular is not a blue chip prospect). And Verhoef, who I rate the highest out of these guys, has been dropping down the rankings because of IQ and skating concerns. None of them are automatic, top-of-the-lineup players. Even if they do turn into that, it's a few years down the line, while Ottawa needs to be a playoff team right now.

What they need to do is flip the picks for a roster upgrade.

I dont necessarily disagree with any of the points you made. Im just saying sometimes you need to make the best out of a bad situation. At least they have options now and not a disgruntled captain causing drama in the locker room. We know that pretty well.

“Obviously it’s a lie. All those articles, stories, it’s just not true. But I think it’s on me if I let that bother me or take me off what I’m trying to do," Tkachuk explained. "I want to play here, I want to be here and I really believe in everybody in this organization that everybody wants to win here. That’s what makes it fun. Everybody has the same goal and wants to accomplish the same thing."

Not even two months ago. This might be the biggest chicken shit trade request I've seen in awhile.

I put up as many points as Brady Tkachuk did in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

That's a horrendous deal for Ottawa, and also exhibit A of why you have to be careful of drafting Americans very early. They have a 1C and 1D in their prime, with good supporting pieces around them, and they got an entirely futures oriented package that I'm not sure you could flip for the #4 pick (where Brady was taken).

The Senators made the playoffs the last two years, were way better than their record indicated (bad regular season goaltending), then were let down by...Brady of all people, in their first round matchup. Their goaltending flipped the switched, but Brady & Stutzle completely shit the bed.

Hughes asking out is one thing, but Brady, Goudreau, and Matt all leaving teams that were quite good & competing for the playoffs is another thing entirely. Brady saying what he did then asking out is weak as heck, and I'd boo him for life as a Sens fan after that.

At the end of the day there will be a few minor changes as the new management and coach want to give everybody another chance and work with them.

People were speculating Lundell + #9 for Larkin and now they get to keep Lundell and add Brady for what essential amounted to #9 and Samoskevich.

Zito is a genius.
Lundell was never going anywhere for anyone.

Looks like I was immediately correct here.

9th overall is overrated. They probably take someone like Smits, who is a #4 guy. The other picks are B-tier assets (unless FLA somehow falls completely out in 2029). And you still have to factor in the TVM. A 2029 pick isn't a real contributor until like 2032 at best.

This is extremely bad for Ottawa. This is a team that needs to be competing right now, not taking a step back as their core ages into their prime. They should be looking to flip all of these picks (#9 included) for a high-end roster player right now.
Yeah that's why I pegged the over/under on how many of the 4 picks they actually use at 1. They need to flip them.

I don't think it's extremely bad though, his list was prob vegas/fl/tb the others of which had even less to offer, and the assets they got are very liquid.

Who exactly can they move those 3 1sts + 2nd for that's remotely as good as Brady?

Well, I hear Player A is available, but despite a rough go on his talent starved team, the ballpark between Player A and Player B isn't so different...

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic here, but you can't be serious looking at that chart. 59 points in 60 games is so much more impressive than what Pettersson has done the last 2 seasons.

If Pettersson put up that type of production, I doubt you'd see him so readily available.

Holy moly! Just heard the brothers are united. What an absolutely horrendous trade for Ottawa. Gotta be one of the worst returns for a grade A asset I've ever seen.

Ya we had to trade Hughes but at least we got fair value for him. Florida once again commiting highway robbery for all to see!

I dont understand the brady top notch asset piece
He’s only 27 with two years left on a now cheap contract, and can go point-per-game while being a top hitter in the league. One of the rare power forwards in the league.

I think he will do well in Florida.

He has people who can keep him in check there.

Also makes sense for Florida's win now window.

Larkin was going to cost a ton.

Other options didn't make sense.

Florida had a down year because of injuries, so Zito is making the most of a Top 10 pick in a weak draft dominated by dmen in the Top 10 projections.

Brady can play W and C.

The return is underwhelming for Ottawa. They need to pivot hard (and fast) to turn it into something useful.

Player B's team of course has more dynamic forward talent to play with and better coaching to explain the gap in production...

Lol. I knew this would trigger folks.
