Canucks & NHL News, Rumours, & Fantasy GM | TRADE SZN

Nichuskin isn't the same since the cup run, very obvious watching him play, get dropped down the lineup and scratched, better options than a big invisible lazy grinder.

Thus why the Avs are trying to get rid of him and his $$ just like Colton, but definitely gonna be several pages of why everyone else, including sakic and the avs, are wrong.

The problems with Nichushkin also haven't been unlucky injuries.

There has been like, human trafficking involvement (even if tertiary), and some serious issues around addiction (I think?) that haven't necessarily felt like they have been properly addressed.

Add that to the douchiest picture I have ever seen of him in Russia holding an AK.

It's not hard to see how, despite his incredible physical gifts, he could be considered a net negative for a dressing room of a team trying to win a cup and not just stack the best assets in a video game.
Ya. I'm kind of cynical and think that a lot of teams don't care enough about that stuff. Meanwhile, Debrusk has played 80+ games the past 3 years and can be a 25+ goal winger who isn't a liability defensively. He also has 27 goals 47 points in 86 career playoff games.

The low risk option would be Debrusk.

I don't know if there's a time limit for these things to pass but if Nichushkin has another incident which involves the NHL/NHLPA it would be stage 4 which is a 1 year suspension without guarantee of reinstatement which is a big risk factor especially if he's on a new team in a new environment which could go either way for better or worse.

No matter how you wanna slice it, moving off Nichushkin for DeBrusk is a move that would slam Colorado's cup window shut. Nichushkin is one of the best two-way forwards in the league who's flirted with producing at a PPG pace in recent seasons (47 points in 53 games, 53 points in 54 games). He's objectively a much, much better player - you deal with his baggage if all you're getting for moving off him is DeBrusk.

because while I like some of the traits he brings and would welcome him back, management rightly sees that he's really bad at hockey.
I think there's some upside there as a lot of pugilists start out raw. It would be nice if the Canucks can develop a tough player that can play who's good in the locker room from the ground floor. Someone like that would be very popular for fans and teammates alike

In any rate, there's low risk with this type of signing so I don't really understand what the big deal is. It seems like it's taking way more thought that it deserves

Columbus Blue Jackets are the latest team to come up in the 'name DeBrusk's new team' sweepstakes. Frankly the Ottawa and Edmonton rumors never made much sense to me--neither team has much that would interest Vancouver.

But the Jackets are a little more interesting, as they have the 14th and 43rd picks in the draft next week.

It would probably take more than a second rounder to acquire DeBrusk. and the Jackets are reluctant to part with their first rounder. But I'm wondering about something involving Kent Johnson and maybe that second rounder?

I feel like people think Nuke is still the guy he was during the cup run. He was invisible this post-season for them, Kadri looked immediately more dangerous and I don't think Kadri is super elite or anything. Not that Bednar is an actually good coach but Kadri seemed like he was getting more opportunities than Nuke,

Also, Colorado has already suffered through all the Nuke drama, they might just be done with him at this point. That's a highly specific situation to the Avs, and if that's the case and they can get a guy that addresses a need like the PP and is also more durable and reliable that might be the thing that puts them over the top (in their minds). We know DeBrusk sucked here but his specific skill set in the bumper might be worth it for the Avs even if he is "objectively worse". Again, I think it's a mistake to generalize Nuke's ceiling and think of him as the same guy from FIVE years ago. Colorado's specific attitude towards him is the most important thing, if they're done with him then they are willing to accept marginal returns. Remember, it's not the greatest UFA market this off-season.

Also, his reputation around the league factors in. Yeah of course some subset of teams won't care but on the other hand maybe the trade to Washington was proposed because of Ovechkin's stature - maybe that would tame Nuke a bit.

To any GM’s or analytics guys of others teams reading this page Debrusk is actually a great player and would be a fantastic addition to your team! Would not give him up for anything less than a 1st and a prospect!
plus hes a powerplay merchant. gets his goals from in close any team needing a front net precense, hes your guy

Hockey has traditionally characterized this sort of dirty goal scoring as heroic. Hockey men love this shit.

Tbay Lightning lose Raddysh to enter the eventual Hronek sweepstakes
Hronek is literally our best trade asset right now. Hitting his prime, proven he can play top pairing dman role, manageable cap hit. We need to trade him, Petey, and Demko( before his ntc kicks in) healthy demko can ruin our tank badly.
