I agree there’s too many players but Blueger is the type that will actually insulate the young players by eating tough defensive minutes and PK time. Would rather see the team overpay to keep him and then offload an extra piece from the roster, even if they have to take a haircut on value. Maybe he had a change of heart but there seemed to be every indication he was open to staying.
Raty isn't exactly a young player at this point. Give him a chance to run with the same role.

You do realize how easy it is to say a non committal answer, right? To go that deep into detail, it's definitely not lip service lmao
Hence the 'in the moment' part. Perhaps he was feeling the vibes 'in the moment,' and once he had time to really consider the situation, perhaps with guidance from his agent, he cooled.

You do realize that's a possibility?

We may never get another canucks rumor again

I struggle with this...I don't necessarily disagree with the thought process behind it, but I'm not sure how much emphasis needs to be placed on it. We had a lot of quality veterans on the team last year, do we think our young players felt "insulated"? The a lot of the veterans got caved in nightly and the young players were still exposed as young players...it really didn't change anything, we still ended up in last place by a country mile. Now, I'm not suggesting you throw the kids to the wolves, but how many vets do we need for the kids to feel insulated? For me, I'd like to see more emphasis on giving the kids a bigger stake in the leadership group early. I think we saw some good signs of it once Hughes was traded and you saw Buium, Willander, EP25 and Mancini seem to elevate themselves and become a tight group who seemed to want to step up into bigger roles. Leadership by kids supplemented by veterans....but that's just me.
You bring up some valid points, although I find last season a difficult one to draw any firm conclusions from.

It was literally like two seasons. The dynamic in the dressing room completely changed after Hughes and Garland were moved out, and Hronek and the new additions rose to the occasion. Even Boeser and DeBrusk had more fire in their game.

Also, the vet mentors have to be good players ( not 3rd line forwards or 3rd pairing D men with character) .At this point in the rebuild, it shouldn’t be on the shoulders of our young players to be held to the fire when we have long nights ( and there will be many.).

I don't know what you're rambling on about when the player himself has said he'd be interested, Rick Dhaliwal corroborated that by reporting that Blueger does have interest in re-signing in Vancouver.

Wow, that's an interesting deal. COL is really trying to create some cap room.

I think Nuke is a really good player. He will definitely help CBJ control play and forecheck, while chipping in some offensive production.

But we know he has a known problem with "blowing off" his team, if we know what I mean. Plus he's had a lot of injuries. Sakic might have just decided he's tired of it and it's a matter of time before something else debilitating happens.

I find it amusing when people take anything that players, managers, or coaches say at face value. None of it matters, particularly weeks later after this player has had time to reflect.

And of course his agent (which is who Dhaliwal likely spoke with) wouldn't close any door. What if his client is left without a dance partner in early August?

I'm open to the possibility that he wants to re-sign and the Canucks aren't doing it.
Are you open to the possibility that he's changed his mind?

They have about 11m in cap space and really just need another top-9 winger and couple of defencemen (LD & RD). I can't imagine them getting any premium players but they have the space to get some good ones.

Barring some off-the-charts offers for the likes of DeBrusk, Pettersson, Hronek and Boeser--seems to me they're all likely going to be around in September.

And I'm really OK with it. It means that for 'better or worse' these guys aren't issuing any trade demands and actually want to stay in Vancouver. That's worth something to me.

Although I guess it will disappoint the 'tank and rebuild' crowd.
I simply think it would behoove the Canucks to continue to accumulate futures, especially when it means trading away players who don't fit the picture going forward anyway.

I'm not a believer in a total scorched earth rebuild either. You can't strip a team down to the bare bones - we've seen how unhealthy that is (ask the Buffalo Sabres) - but there are always some players who make sense to trade without leaving yourself with nothing. If you're shrewd in free agency then you can fill those holes and almost break even in the end.

do you have a link to this? maclean has said many positive things about malhotra in the past.
I recall it too. It was in a hit on Kyper and Bourne but I can't recall which one.

It didn't sound like a character assassination so much as they ran afoul of each other in some professional manner while he was there.

I chalked it up, personally, to Maclean being kind of a dipshit.
