I’ll say again - I think the ship has sailed, but I really think we should re-sign Boeser. The UFA market is not saturated with upgrades or even lateral options on him. And our thin offensive group up front gets even thinner without him.
Yeah, I don’t see how they replace 30+ goals
Unless you’re willing to trade a guy like Hronek

Option A is bring back the same group and tinker around the edges
Option B is more significant changes starting with trying to replace Boes, Suter etc.

A is safer but youre relying on bouncebacks and luck to avoid the mushy middle.
B is unknown but certainly expensive

Or do you take a big gamble and try to do something a Fiala for Faber with Willander?

That would require Van media to do their jobs, why would you expect that
I think you might be forgetting the CMac factor.

Media can want to ask but if the gatekeeper is blocking the questions from being received or all they get are non answers they can only print that so many times.

This is my prediction for the offseason. We could land a pretty good, young 2C for Willander and it's the only trade chip we really have at this point that we can 'spare'. Locking up Metey to a favorable contract and the emergence of DPetey opens up the option to trade from a position of strength to address a glaring weakness.

i think vancouver really want kotkaniemi but the canes have zero reason to trade him. they have north of 35m in cap space. they don't need to dump cap and they don't have anyone coming up to replace him. he'll be pricey to acquire

LD depth is more our strength so we should think about trading DPetey over Willander.

No idea what Deptey’s value is but you have to think 6’4” D that can skate like the wind would have a lot of value.
I mean... not really?

You have to think of it from the other GM's perspective. He may consider DPetey to be a smart get, but when he trades his young top 6 C for him, he's got to sell it to the fans who are as invested in their former player as we are in our prospects. And a 3rd round-drafted player known mainly for being meme-worthy due to his name is going to be a tough sell.

Willander, a former 11OA with similar traits but rarer as an RD, is a much easier sell and, if things go south, gives much more CYA value for that GM to his bosses.

Just like JT Miller

I don’t see a problem with what he did there. He’s been playing wing a lot (this was also on the PP) and the ranger player who’s playing centre shouldn’t have pinched the way he did. Miller was right to challenge the 50/50 puck coming around the boards. The center had no business chasing the puck there.

No way they trade Willander. Bad idea.

I am not sure how important selling to the fans is for non Canadian market teams.

Selling a top6 guy for a D is most likely going to be a boring trade for the team getting the D back unless the D is uber dynamic. Also a team trading the top 6C is either rebuilding or have too many centers so they probably don’t need to do much selling to the fans.

I mean sure just because he was "technically" correct doesn't give you just cause to leave your teammates out to dry and jeopardize the season. This game is read and re-act. He could clearly see there were 2 of his teammates already engaged behind the net. He should have erred on the side of caution like any normal player with a 4-3 lead in a huge game with <2 minutes left.

Edit: At least it was a PP. I guess he wasn't aware that a player was coming out of the box. Poor judgement and awareness at the very least.

They only have 10 forwards, 5 defense, and 1 goalie signed.

Two of their ufa defenders play big minutes for them, Burns and Orlov. Andersen is ufa as well.

It doesn't change what was said about kotkaniemi but it's not like they'll wade into free agency to freely blow 35 million.
Also don’t think they will spend to the cap

Finally get dmen like DPetey and Willander and now people here think they should trade them. Give your heads a shake. No way in hell either of them are traded.
They need top 6 scoring forwards for next season. The only position we’re not thin on is D and we happen to have a few younger guys that may be sought after. It’s pretty obviously the only way they can acquire a top 6 forward outside of UFA, which is a crapshoot.

What does Rick mean by this? I'm confused.

I don't know if he's trying to hint at Willander returning to school as an option or just opining about what kind of contract he'll get.

Drance has been talking about it for a bit, looking at past contracts given and bonus structures they've had. If he'll play in nhl right away and burn a year or if he'll sign a PTO and go to abbotsford.

I think Rick is just talking to talk.
